I'm considering making a site where..

- User views whois info
- Whois tells them info is available at example.com
- example.com asks for domain name and a code [to prevent robots from searching it]
- once the data has been entered, you can view the whois info with an email form

Would this be "a-ok" to do?

Can you elaborate more on your post, its quite not understandable.

Basically the whois info on a domain would link to a url. A person who wanted to view the whois info would go to the url and input the domain name. They would click enter and be able to view the whois info.

I'm wondering if this would be legal, or if the whois info actually has to be IN the whois.

Would this be similar to those 'unlisted whois' or 'whois proxy' services provided by some domain registrars? Had always wondered if they are legal as far as ICANN rules are concerned.

Pretty much.

I also got some interesting stuff from Whois.sc, it was so helpful.

DanX, that would be good for sure.
