I currently back up the following directories on a nightly basis (Plesk machine-RHE3):
/etc
/home
/lib
/root
/usr
/var
Is there anything else I should be backing up?
Are any of these unecessary?
I'm running out of the backup space alloted... so I'm basically wondering if I can cut something back.

We just backup /home, /var, and /etc.

I back up /usr in case I screw up a Plesk upgrade. Admittedly, I don't know the specifics to back up, so I just back up the whole /usr dir.
Are /lib and /root completely unecessary to back up?

I don't think there's much to backup in usr. I back up /backup too, where cpanel backups are stored, and that also backs up all the important directories and files in other directories.
But then again you are usin gplesk and I don't know how that works

I thought backing up
/usr and /home are more than enough...
anyway it is my view. :)

i would never use the Plesk backup. i used to use it. try restoring after you upgrade.
