Hey guys... I am just wondering how can I register domain names that have expired like 2-3 days ago?

They are still being displayed as taken, even though the expiration date is listed as March 24/25..? If they are being held by the registrar, is there any way to grab that domain name?

You have to wait until they are dropped. Someone closer to the domain industry can tell you when this is most likely to happen, but I believe in many cases it is about 45 days after the expiration (assuming they don't renew the domain). Some registrars don't have a regular drop schedule (rather they do it in batches). There are also snapback services which can attempt to register the domain for you as it drops. Search for 'expirefish' or 'snapnames' for some threads related to this subject.

Where is the domain registered? This will help in determining when it will drop. It it's at NetSol, you are S.O.L.. They only drop domains when they feel like it - no schedule - no rhyme or reason.

OpenSRS will drop after 45 days.

Depending on how badly you want the domain, you might be better off asking the last owner to sell it to you - renew the domain thru him and then transfer it to you (wait 45 days between the renewal and the transfer so you don't lose a domain year though).

it says that the domain is registered at whois.networksolutions.com (and also mentions some VeriSign Registrar, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it)...

actually, here's what I get from the whois lookup:

***domain*** is registered at whois.networksolutions.com

The Data in the VeriSign Registrar WHOIS database is provided by VeriSign forinformation purposes only, and to assist persons in obtaining information aboutor related to a domain name registration record. VeriSign does not guarantee its accuracy...

Netsol/Verisign hold on to good domains indefinitely it seems and even bad ones a long time. I wouldn't hold my breath. However, the idea of following up with previous owner, paying him a little premium to register and transfer to you sounds like a possible.

I've seen domain names drop as quickly as 7-10 days and Verisign has been holding on to some domains for many months. The industry average seems to be around 45-60 days, some for 90 days.

You'd be wise to use snapnames.com. There are companies out there that grab dropping domains within milliseconds of their release back into the pool of available domains.

I used snapnames.com and they failed on one domain but nailed another for me. And the best part is that they didn't charge me for the domain they didn't get for me.

Just a short note to say "thanks" for recommending snapnames. They snagged a domain for me that expired last month. They were very good to work with.

Good recommendation. Thanks.

It can take even longer than 45 days. I've been trying to get my hands on greenriverutah.com for about a year.

Its been expired for nearly two years and I still can't register it. Network solutions will let me renew the current registration, but then I'll have a headache trying to fix the administrator who no longer lives in our city.

Good grab! As far as I've read, while it isn't 100% by any means, these services are a weapon in the arsenal of tools you can use to get a domain that you want.
