Anyone know how much bandwidth I could realistically expect to get out of one of these servers? It works out at around 3000gb a month but I'm sure I shouldn't expect to actually get that much data transfer out of it. I say this considering peaks/spikes in demand and people using up bandwidth on fast connections.

I run a REAL popular website and need to find a more cost effective host. For this reason, its obvious why the rackshack deal would on the surface appear attractive to me.

Any comments on this deal? Any guesses to how much bandwidth I could realistically expect to push out on one of these servers before the 10mbps connection slows to a crawl?

Thanks in advance people. :D

it would be easier to analyse this with traffic information pertaining to your site. But it really doesen't matter how much traffic you get out of it (we are so busy trying to go "yeh, i got this for this much!" as people), it really matters that your site doesen't burst past 10mbps. If your site does not burst past 10mbps, then you can just sit back and say (for the time being at least) "wow, good deal, this will do me".

Generally speaking, the accepted standard for line utilization is that the 95th percentile level should be no higher than 50% of line capacity. For significant data rates (> 2Mbps) most traffic averages 200-210GB/Mbps-month at 95th percentile. (You can see an example of this at http://mrtg.datacolo.com/switch5/index.cgi?log=dctotal).

I would therefore advise that you keep below 1000GB/month of traffic.

If I'm not mistaken, with the Rackshack's 10mbps deal, the bandwidth is set to Cogent only. In this case, the speed may not as good as their standard plans (those with 400 GB bandwidth). You should consider this before taking the 10mbps deal.

I don't think how much your site bursts to has anything to do with the cost, as rackshack servers may be limmited by their hardware in more way than one. There's a good chance that the user is allocated a max of 10 MBPS, either by ethernet port, or by the switch in the datacenter (probably max per port is 10MBPS).
