I've got a bit of a problem. I cancelled my account on activewebhosting and attempted to transfer the domain over to GoDaddy. Apparently, my transfer failed because the administrative emails on the GOdaddy account and activewebhosting account do not match. The email it was registered with was a compuserve address that is no longer active because it was hacked into. I asked AWH to change the email on their end and they said i would have to do that thru my control panel, and by that time, my account was already disabled. i thought i would reaactivate my compuserve email and do it that way. I had been having problems with the ISP and had cancelled it, and was told i would have to pay a cancellation fee so i reinstated it, and just installed my parents internet service on my computer. anyway, last night i installed compuserve with the intention of reactivating that account for the purpose of transferring this domain. I got a message that said my account is deactivated and to click here to pay the $450 charge on my account. i haven't called compuserve yet, but they have never been cooperative at all. What worries me is that i already paid for this domain transfer which is non-refundable. it was only $8.95 of course. My mother thinks I should just register a new domain. lol. any suggestions, ideas?

Do you know who activewebhosting is reselling? They may be able to transfer it if you send them a letter on letterhead to transfer or change the contact e-mail. They may want it notorized however.

It looks like they're an OpenSRS reseller. You can confirm that by checking the whois on your domain, or check it at http://www.domainwhitepages.com -- if the results say that the registrar is TUCOWS, Inc., that's OpenSRS.

So then, even if your hosting about is closed, you should be able to access the domain info through the "domain manager" at activewebhosting. You'd need the password for the domain, which isn't the same thing as the one for your old account. If you have that, you can actually change the domain details through any OpenSRS reseller, or at opensrs.org itself.

If you don't have the password, and activewebhosting can't or won't help you with that, send email to compliance@opensrs.org and explain your situation to them.

Good luck!
