View Full Version : Site5
mjmsr 03-26-2002, 11:32 PM Being leary of the current host provider I currently have, I recently saw a post about Site5.com and am currious how they stack up with the others.
I am leaning towards FurtureQuest but I certainly like the prices of Site5.
What is important is:
Speed
Dependability
Cost
Email stability and uptime
Website stability and uptime
I have a small site and actually am re-doing it, possibly with FrontPage. I do not have large demands at this time.
What I saw on Site5 was nice, they even allow SSL using their certificate, for free.
Any comments?
Mike

I have never used them personally, but they seem to be highly respected and recommended here. Matt from Site5 posts here every now and then and is always very professional and friendly.
Rewdog 03-27-2002, 12:07 AM First off, never used Site5, never used futurequest.
I know more about FutureQuest because I'm friends with the CEO and many customers of futurequest ( www.hexdot.com ) if you want a URL :) .
FutureQuest is more expensive, but the quality of service you get is amazing.
Their uptime is 100% on all servers last time I checked...
They are going to open up their own datacenter soon.
You can depend on Deb and her crew, she really loves each one of her customers, and her customers love her. Check out their forums.
sodapopinski 03-27-2002, 12:36 AM I highly recommend site5.com.
Their services is very good. Fast response and friendly support.
One of my friend put a box into their network, and once I'm as the server admin need help, Matt and Vince always give prompt response.
figment88 03-27-2002, 01:58 AM I signed up with site5 a couple of days ago. I also looked seriously at FutureQuest. Frankly, the whole "love" thing at Futurequest was a big turn off. I read several posts in their forum and just wanted to get a web host not join a cult. Also why I don't mind paying a premium for quality some of their charges just seemed absurd.
So far I'm pretty happy with site5. It is definately run by adults -- not teenagers in a garage not techno-hippies. I've asked a couple of questions and received sensible replies in a timely manner. Since I want a professional and not an emotional relationship this meets my needs.
I wouldn't mind the web server being a little snappier (more cpu please) but I understand my site that uses extensive mod_rewrite and database access is resource intensive.
Jeff Rambo 03-27-2002, 03:07 AM I've been with many hosts throughout my 6 or 7yrs of being a web hosting consumer and I'd honestly say Site5 is the only one I'd recommend to anyone seeking hosting, regardless of their needs. At times I wish I hadn't have left (was with them for 6-8 months I believe, Matt might be able to correct me if I'm wrong), but due to the site I had hosted with them closing it wasn't much to do. I'm sure we'll find ourselves together once again though :D
I've never hosted with FutureQuest, but I've only heard wonderful things about them. If thats any measurement, you can't go wrong with either or. But I'd go with Site5 if I were to ever do it over again. Just oddly enough, when I originally went with Site5, FutureQuest was a consideration.
To note, I also agree with Figment. While I do enjoy having some type of personalized effort put forth from account managers and so forth with those I do business with, I don't want the business relationship to become a casualty of friendship. Afterall, as stated, it is a business relationship. Don't get me wrong though, Site5 does a good job of keeping a healthy professional relationship with the personalized service mixed in, but they don't attempt to overly-pry like other hosts have been known to do to acheive such standards. Not referring to FutureQuest or any host in specific, just in general.
To sum it up it's pretty much like the line Robert DeNiro quoted to Al Pacino in Heat "...Do not have any attachments, do not have anything in your life you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you spot the heat around the corner" While I may not agree with the philosphy when it comes to most things, it's dead on when applied to business...
slayerboy 03-27-2002, 05:48 AM ok...here's a stupid question. Say I sign up for site5, and I put a full featured site up under the "elite plan" that has 1 GB of bandwidth a month. What happens if I implament all of the features they offer (flash, streaming real media, etc.) Wouldn't that eat up my bandwidth?
although....jumping to the "mecury plan" has 7.5x the amount of bandwidth allowance, still wouldn't all those features eat up that bandwidth?
Change 03-27-2002, 07:58 AM It really depends on the amount of pageviews you get and how large your files are. I'm getting about 20,000-25,000 pageviews a month and I have a hard time reaching 500mb of bandwidth a month (but I don't use Flash or RealMedia - http://www.f1universe.com).
I've been with Site5 for 2 months now and they have given me the best hosting experience ever. I've been hosting sites for about 4 years now and have had experience with about 4-5 different hosts before. Unfortunately Site5 does not offer reseller packages which forces me to leave them soon again, but I wish I could stay with them.. :(
btw.. it's free to get on a higher plan, so you could start with the cheaper one and when you see you're using more bandwidth than expected, you can always ask them to put you on a higher plan.
markblair 03-27-2002, 12:39 PM From what I vaguely remember, Site5 used to offer Reseller options/plans. I would contact them to see if this is something they either do offer or plan to in the near future. They're worth staying with and I hope they offer the service.

I have contacted them before looking elsewhere. The only thing they could offer me was taking out multiple accounts, but that's not what I want. So unfortunately I don't have a choice.. I might return in the future; they would be my #1 choice for virtual hosting.
Andyc 03-27-2002, 02:26 PM Without a doubt FutureQuest is the best host I have ever used. Their plans are a little higher then others but the level of customer service and support they give is outstanding. It is well worth the few extra bucks to have a host you can rely on.
Craig 07-01-2002, 09:40 AM We have been site5 customers for over a year now. We are still with them and will contiune to stay with them.
Their support is friendly, professional and of course answered in good time.
I have nothing put praises for these people. Thumbs up.
Craig.
yeswebmaster 07-01-2002, 12:38 PM I've been with Site 5 for over 2 years, I high recommend them as well.
Drewcifer 07-01-2002, 12:53 PM Matt is the real deal. The amount of help he gives to people here at WHT is enough to easily recommend his company to anyone looking for hosting.
Cpanel doing something stupid again? Put the symptoms into the search here on WHT...9 times out of 10 there's a step by step fix from Matt.
Incognito 07-01-2002, 01:25 PM It's amazing how often someone comes here and asks:
which should I use: scumhost.com, neverheardofhost.net, or crookedhost.biz.
You have selected in site5 and futurequest two hosts who I have consistently heard good things about and from whom I consistently see professionalism in their posts.
The most impressing single thing in the case of site5 has been Matt's responses when they have had problems-always professional, always apologizing for the problems, always direct and honest, and always working toward a good solution.
It is easy to look good when everything is running smoothly, there are no hardware problems, there are no connectivity issues, and there are no DOS attacks. However, true professionalism is best seen when an issue arises and you get to see how someone handles it.
mwatkins 07-01-2002, 07:51 PM Another vote for Site5. I have entrusted a signifcant revenue producing site to them and I don't have to worry about it. I now co-locate with them and again, and remain very pleased with all respects of their service.
Bad things happen - technology breaks, even at Site5 and other high quality hosts. What really matters is how a company is able to step up to solving problems. From my experience (and you can also see how Matt and others have responded to questions here on WHT) Site5 always delivers.
Plus they are genuinely nice people.
Mike
