I've heard the term, but don't know exactly what it means. Is it where you buy a reselling account, then sell spaces on that account to other people, like a small hosting company?

What I want to do someday, is start a small company that designs, hosts, and manages websites for small buisnesses in my area. What would I do to start that, is their anything I should know before I do that. It's just somthing I want to do some day.

There are many folks here not much ahead of you in this quest :)Is it where you buy a reselling account, then sell spaces on that account to other people, like a small hosting company? Yeah. Basically. But there are two types of plans.

One is to buy a hosting account that either qualifies for reselling right off the bat, or that you pay a one-time fee to qualify for reselling. You then get to sign up your customers with the host company's standard accounts, charging them what you like, and paying the hosting company a reduced rate. See VenturesOnline (http://www.venturesonline.com) of HostingMatters (http://www.hostingmatters.com) for this type of plan.

Or you can buy a single, large plan, that you can then divy up into whatever plans you create. There is usually no per-account fee for this type of plan. The initial outlay of cash may be slightly higher this way, but the potential for profits is also larger - especially if most of you customers have small sites, thereby allowing you to fit many customers into your one account. Some of these plans do place a limit on the number of domains you can place per account. See SplashHost (http://www.splashhost.com) , Voxtreme (http://www.voxtreme.com) , MCHost (http://www.mchost.com) for examples.

Either way, your customers have their own domains, with their own control panel for administering their site.

The fact is that even if you just have a couple of your own accounts, it winds up costing very little to get started in this arena.

Good luck!
