I had been looking around for a reseller account. Here some questions I hope you can help me understand better. Thanks in advance.

What is overselling? This term is very popular when asscociated with reseller hosting.

For example: I purchase a reseller plan with 6gig disk space and 80gig transfer. I'm going to use that plan to resell it with my own plans.

Plan A: 1gig disk space
Plan B: 2gig disk space
Plan C: 3gig disk space

If I have 3 customers buy each plan separately but they don't use all the disk space.

My question: Since my reseller plan is 6gig disk space total and I already sold out to the 3 customers, can I still sell more since there are spaces available from end-users? Is this the idea of overselling?

I'm still so unclear how this whole reseller hosting bussiness work.

Is there a quota on how many customers you gonna resell the plans to? or is it depends on what reseller plans you purchase? if so how you explain some resellers offer better plans than their original resellers( the people buy the reseller plans from)

Yes, that is overselling. Overselling is when you sell more than resources you have. All you can do, once you have over-selled, is hope that they don't fill their quotas.

Also depends on the host you are getting the reseller package from. Some allow over selling and some do not. If they do not allow the resellers to over sell then you can not over sell your space and bandwidth :).

Or buy more hardware -- after all, if you oversell disk space a bit, but your server is operating fine, you could always throw in another disk if necessary.

I guess the person above is asking about a reseller package. He does not have a dedicated.

Yes you can over-sell if you are sure your customers will not use up their allocated quota, and even if they do you can upgrade to a higher package offered by your host.

I think it also depends on your pricing structure. If you are satisfied with the money you are getting by re-selling your entire account to the 3 customers, you are getting better returns, then I think you should get another package and be content and satisfied.

Isn't this what a majority of low-budget hosts do?
