ok I have a headache and I'm not even gonna dig out the calculator.....I'm really bored too so I'm wondering if a T1 was running a 90% load 24hrs a day for 30 days how many gigs could the T1 push out in 30 days

I tried.. got something like 51 Gigs.. don't trust my math skills though.

I didn't do the long drawn out math, but a rough estimate, of a T1 @ 1.54mbps running @ a solid 90% capacity 24/7 for 30 days is roughly 426.6 gig per month

(based on 100% usage for 30 days of 474 gig per month, taking that figure and subtracting 10% off it..)

Not 100% exact but it's pretty close +/- 6gig

Now that I go back and look at my answer, I feel really dumb. 51 Gigs... geez, what was wrong with me?

I keep doing it, and I get 490 GB.

Ok,

1.54 mbps = 1,540 bits per second
at 8 bits per byte,
1540 bits per second = 192.5 bytes per second (i.e 4 to 6 web pages?)

60 seconds per minute times the 60 minutes in an hour
= 3600 seconds per hour';

3600 seconds per hour times 24 hours in a day
= 86,400 seconds in a day

86,400 seconds in a day times 30 days in a typical month
= 2,592,000 seconds in a year.

2,592,000 seconds in a year times
192.5 bytes per second = 498960000 bytes per year

divided by 1024 bytes per meg = 487265.625 megs per year

divided by 1024 megs per gigabyte = 475.85 gigs per year

times 90% (i.e 0.9) = 466.85 gigs per year unless my math is off!

Take care,

Louis

Actually, your math should have been based on per month not per year, most appears to be correct except

times 90% (i.e 0.9) = 466.85 gigs per year

should be

times 90% (i.e 0.90) = 427.50 gigs per month

So my estimations didn't seem to be that far off :)

This is embasrassing,

I was in a hurry to go watch TV...should have proofread my post above....but I won't edit it -- then your post would make no sense. I'm a big enough person to admit I sometimes make mistakes-- note to self -- proofread better before posting!

picking up here from above post:

86,400 seconds in a day times 30 days in a typical month
= 2,592,000 seconds in a month (not year!).

2,592,000 seconds in a month (not year!) times
192.5 bytes per second = 498960000 bytes per month (not year!)

divided by 1024 bytes per meg = 487265.625 megs per month (not year!)

divided by 1024 megs per gigabyte = 475.85 gigs per month (not year!)

times 90% (i.e 0.9) = 428.265 (not 466.85) gigs per month (not year!) unless my math is off!

90% is the same as 0.9, which is the same as 0.90 of course. I was working the windows calculator with my mouse; I haven't a clue what I did wrong -- besides hurry up and hit the send button so I didn't miss the tv show -- sorry! -- I usually double check my math and proofread *just a little* before posting!

Anyway, you do have your answer. Hope my writting it out step by step was at least some help.

Take care,

Louis
