man I upgraded to 17" monitor in Jan 2002, its cool. everything looks big big big, tools bars are also more manageable, so I asked my dealer give me price info for 19" and 21" monitors and I was shocked with his answer. 19" monitor cost around 400 % then the price of 17" monitor and 21 " cost around 600 % then the 17 ".

why is it so ?

32 MB AGP. :spiny: man don't tell me you are having good times with games. :spiny: i love games but haven't played any since last 12 months. :(

I am also planning to bring my home pc to office and make it Linux server and bring home one cool, sexy P4 1.6 ghz with tv tuner and riva tnt card to play games on it.

but don't get time for them. ! do you ! :bawling:

Hi!
I do not play games on my computer... :(
Only thing I every played was road rash...
All of us here have a rule to play cricket or badminton every evening...

But I love to work on my new machine...
17'' is really nice and atleast in India the price of a 14 and 17 is almost at par... :)
Never thought about 21'' ....

Anyway, i love this. WHT looks cool, Kmail looks very good and I can open all my Im's without any mixup... :)

Have a great day

the cost increases exponentially because the requirements of the monitor do and theres not the 'price point' or volume of sales . 17 is pretty much standard these days so the volume knocks the price down. i tend to just buy a few 17s and run dual head. makes life easier. plus theyre soooooo cheap.

Trust me guys, you haven't experienced anything if you haven't played games thru' a 19" monitor. They are well worth the money - I love my NEC MultiSync FE950 flatscreen :D

You haven't experienced anything till you've played with a 64 meg Geforce 4 hooked up to a projector :D Its a bit harder, but awsome.

I thought the GForce 4's had 128 megs of ram in them?

Upgraded from a (IBM) 200MHZ, 4GIG HD, 64MB RAM, 17" monitor to a (Dell) 2.0GHZ, 60GIG HD, 256MB RAM, 19" FD Trinitron monitor a few months ago. :D

I think there's already a 2.4GHZ (ouch!) processor out there now according to some advertisement I saw last week or two. My friend says there's a 3.0GHZ on the market today, but I think he's exaggerating a little.

I know of the P4 2.4GHZ, but I haven't heard anything on a 3GHZ though. I'm here running on 1233MHZ P4 with a 128 megs of ram. 64 Meg GeForce 3, with a some cheapo sound card that sucks. 20 GIG hard drive and a 19inch (17 Viewable) monitor. If I get the job at bestbuy (which I applied for on Monday) I'm gonna upgrade my monitor, and hopefully get some car insurence so my parents will let me drive again.. haha

I just bought a brand new AMD XP 1800 system last week, with 512 MB DDR RAM. It's... fast :)

And one of these - http://au.hercules.com/products/pview720/features_pview720.php. Very nice, but expensive, so I stuck to a 64 MB GeForce 2. Now a GeForce 4, that would just be distracting!

Hey Lawrence, how many dead pixels on that LCD you bought? I'd love to get one but I don't think I could deal with any more then one or two dead pixels.. I like my computer stuff to be perfect... as much time as I spend on it :o.

I've got one partly dead pixel, where the red is always at full intensity. So for lighter colours, it's hardly noticeable, just slightly brighter than its surroundings. For darker colours, particularly green, blue and black of course, it looks like a full red pixel. It's a little annoying, but I'm getting to the stage where I don't really notice it. In fact, sometimes it even seems to work fine (like right now), although only about 10% of the time I suppose.

At the place where I bought it, they were actually out of stock and only had two that they were using on their customer service terminals. So I managed to pick up one them for a small discount (just $50 aussie off, and the sales girl who was using it seemed sad to see it go... :D). But it meant I could inspect the screen before buying it, which was good. Unfortunately, I didn't actually notice the half dead pixel until I got home!

I wouldn't want to buy one unless I could inspect it first though. As you said, you wouldn't want more than one or two dead pixels.
