View Full Version : Why not RackShack?

Been checking out all the reseller options here and seems like SplashHost is the crowd fav but if you're just beginning but still thinking long term, why not get your own server at RackShack?

Isn't having your own server the ultimate goal? If cost were not the big issue, wouldn't RackShack be your best solution in the long run? Is there something that I haven't thought of?

Thanks In Advance!

If you have no experience with server admin, and no one to help you out, it could be a nightmare. Rackshack is a great company, I'm sure, but their servers do not come with management. Someone that has no experience with webhosting would be totally lost. It is easy to pick up on though, if you have someone to help you and you are a quick study. :)

And, yes, their prices are very nice looking, aren't they?

(Question 1)

Ok...so for someone like me who has no real unix/linux exerience, I'd be better off sticking with a reseller before going with dedicated/managed hosting solution like RackShack?

I am currently a reseller with ***** (HATE THEM) as well as few other reseller providers and with most of them, you get a nice, easy to understand, web based control panel that makes it pretty easy to manage your sites if you know how to read and understand something about hosting but not necessarily the in's and out's of unix such as cron jobs, etc.

(Question 2)

I've checked out CPanel (love it) and its very similar (in funtionality) to the control panel that ***** has so I'm interested in finding a reliable and affordable reseller that offers CPanel or something very similar. Thougts? Recommendations?

(Question 3)

SplashHost seems to be the crowd favorite here and even I love their prices and what not, but does anyone know how long they've been in business?

I want a host provider with a proven track record...not one that's only been around for a few months and could close up shop overnight...know what I mean?

Your best bet would probably be a reseller plan, so you can learn the basics of SSH etc. As your knowledge increases, it then may be time for you to get a managed server, you can play around with it a bit, but ask your provider to do things you are unsure of.
Once you think you have enough knowledge to manage your own server, then is the time to go dedicated.

A few books / courses along the way cannot harm :)

Actually i'm from 10 days with splashhost and before signing i was trying to find out more.

A short answer: Alan is on this for few years. He was the owner of madhosts.com a great initiative for many (a free one). Also he had to deal with raq's (as far as i know not satisfied with them).

Try to find al post of splashhost.com and madhosts.com for a year or more ago.

Good luck. ;)

I would say that Alan of Splashhost.com will be very good for you. He is knowledgable and he also offers personal attention. Very nice person and helpful also.

As another alternative, Venturesonline.com is very good for a reseller too. I now have my dedicated with them now.

Both companys offer different types of reseller plans.

RACKSHACK Has very high setup fees.
