Craig 12-27-2000, 05:16 PM Sorry for all these posts in the last couple of days guys but ah well! a keen new member i am.
Right just a couple of questions really about the best place to get a dedicated server.
Im wanting to switch to one very soon, from normal reselling.
The places i had in mind were:
Alabazna
Dialtone internet
Rackspace
Anyone had any dealings with any of these companys? If so was it good or bad?
Or do you know of a better provider? :D
Cheers anyway

You'll find info on all those companies there.

webfors 12-30-2000, 08:01 PM I've been extremely happy with UltraspeedUSA. I don't think you can go wrong with them.
hellexia 01-02-2001, 11:14 AM Hi,
I have a server with OLM.net which has been great. They have some new server plans now. My server now is almost full, so I'll look into these. For my customers, the control panel is very important, that's why I like them. Just see which company has the best features you need.
Hellexia-
lloyds 01-02-2001, 02:00 PM I hosted with http://www.wedgemusic.com and have been quite happy.
Mark McGuire 01-05-2001, 12:33 AM If I were you I would look into three of the largest and possibly the best Dedicated Server companies in the USA:
1) Rackspace.com
2) DedicatedHosting.com
3) Verio.com
These companies are all very large, all have solid networks, will allow you to go on a month to month contract, all have specials going on, and they most likely will not go out of business.
You have to shop around, but be careful of some of these smaller companies that try to make you sign contracts for over one month.
Mark
KDAWebServices 01-05-2001, 09:17 AM Personally I would go with Ultraspeed out of all the one's mentioned so far.
Deb Suran 01-05-2001, 10:18 AM I'd be cautious about Verio, for a few reasons.
1) As I've mentioned many times, Verio is an agglomeration of services they've purchased and support quality varies highly from host to host. My own host is a case in point-- they have gone from terrifc to dreadful over the past year.
2) I'm on a (shared) Verio server, and I and my members occasionally have problems once we get into Verio's network, bouncing around endlessly and never getting to our server. I don't like the fact that you get pulled into their network at the node closest to you, instead of getting as close as you can to your server through external routes.
3) Mark's is the first positive recommendation I've EVER seen, and he doesn't say he's actually hosted with them. I'd want to see some positive recommendations from people who have dedicated servers with them, and I'd want specifics on the hosting company they went through.
Rocket 01-05-2001, 03:33 PM I had friends of mine hosting with Verio at one time and they didn't really care for them. But each to their own, right? :) They have recently moved to Host2Own(I am sharing their server w/them). I just found out that they are Cobalt's partner-of-the-month. So far so good! :) so much competition and opinions out there, its hard to believe until you use it yourself.
MattF 01-05-2001, 04:16 PM IMHO there is no need to be cautious of Verio's Dedicated Services, Verio purchased their dedicated operations from DigitalNation, which was well known for its superior connections and support. I gather support will be different from each Verio support operations, but this if true for all major companies, if rang IBM with questions regarding Net Infinity hosting server you would not speak to same people as you would if you rang regarding e-commerce hosting services.
I received an e-mail from Verio a few weeks ago describing how they were upgrading the DigitalNation building connection and infastructure to be one of most "connected" in the US, can't remember exactly what it said so don't quote me.
Network: I still say "Verio's Dedicated Services" network* is the best, and it's gonna get even better. I have a dedicated NT server there and I'm always able to connect and pings are always good, shows no signs of overload or peak-suffering.
* Verio probably own multiple networks.
Craig 01-05-2001, 09:04 PM Who would be the better people to go for though?
I would like automation thats why i thought of alabazan but what are their prices?
recently heard alot of bad things about them, support side etc..
I hear alot about VDi? who are these people are these the main contender for alabazna?
If so whats their url?
Cheers
Craig
CRego3D 01-05-2001, 11:51 PM gotta love it :D
Deb Suran 01-06-2001, 10:04 AM Verio purchased their dedicated operations from DigitalNation, which was well known for its superior connections and support.
No, they purchased Digital Nation. They already had dedicated servers online with their many individual hosts, including mine, they still do, and those programs remain different from one Verio host to another, as does support. If you want to be certain you're getting DN's service, you need to sign up with DN. That's my point.
mpkapadia 01-08-2001, 08:40 AM I have been with Rackspace for 5 months now. Initially it was an Linux machine but now we have added windows Nt too . For linux their support is just too good. Windows Nt is okey but actually not required as we are very comfortable with the same. Speeds are also fine even though we access the same from India which is around 17 hops from the Rackspace servers.
They are slightly expensive then olm or dialtone but i think worth the little extra.
Skeeter 01-08-2001, 12:11 PM We just went with http://www.ultraspeedusa.com and have received excellent customer support. Their dedicated server also comes with WebHost Manager and CPanel. I thought their prices were good, too.
