Hello.

Just want to clarify. Is that really a single page design for $42?
What kind of webpage will that be? An announcement page (for an opened business perhaps?), or a single ad? Please verify.

Would you like to reconsider the rates for the logo and graphic(I presume this is illustration)? In my opinion, they are way below the average. :)

Regarding the payment option, I don't know but may be somebody can clarify this. I have heard that Paypal lets you have a sort of a "credit card" and you can use it to pay online and it is just debited from your paypaly account. Can someone enlighten us on this?

Thanks.

:)

Yah your prices seem a bit low to me...check www.elance.com

typical cost of a logo is 300-600$

Hi,

Our prices are based on what we have paid in the past for design work. We do not expect fully scripted pages just one single HTML page we add additional pages.

We have been fair to advertise our prices so to avoid people wasting their time contacting us. We have had a large responce so far to our ad and we are now looking through the applicants portfolio's.

Past work we have had done for the prices advertised include:

www.netspotting.co.uk
www.cottagecompanies.co.uk (Flash Intro & HTML Page)

Hi Tranz,

Yes thats right and that's because there is no page as yet ;). That is also down to the fact that we have not opened yet and won't be for another 3-4 months.

The designer is not needed for UK Top Host also which I should have made clear before hand.

A few tips:

1. Swishes are SO much 20th century
2. Decent logos cost $200+ as someone else mentioned.
3. No problem with remote development if the price is right.

Hi

Thanks for the design tips,

In reply to your logo price - as I said to the previous message we state what we will pay and have had over 80 apps now 90% of them are excellent!. If anyone is not in agreeance with our prices then simply do not apply this way we are not wasting peoples time.

I understand and appreciate general logo prices but lets be honest there just silly.

David,

Average logo prices are like that because of several factors most of them are actually overheads.

And hey, I may have to disagree with you that general prices are silly. Logo prices will depend on each country.

The artwork that is done on each logo is to be considered. Also the conceptualization of the logo should be factored in. These two things require creative minds and a lot of imagination. We appreciate the design of our artists and how they love and value their work.

How much time does your artists spend on one logo?
One hour? ($14 per hour?). Thirty minutes perhaps? (that will be $7 every 30 min?). The least that our artists spend is 3 hours! And we don't want to underpay (sorry for the word) them.

May I suggest you consider artwork and conceptualization when you decide on your logo pricing. But, I will not argue with you if you stick to your price. After all, this is just my opinion.

Good luck to your business!

:)

Just my 2 cents on a few of these comments:

"1. Swishes are SO much 20th century "
not everyone is a web guru like so many here, granted I am not a long time professional website designer, but sooo many of the people here think they are god's gift to the design world. Probably 90% of the web browsing world doesn’t even know what Swish is and all they know about Flash is that is something you have to install on your computer to make websites do cool things, you know what? That is fine with me, those with the tools and skills are the people who have always made money. When I first started using Swish and Flash, if I made my freaking name fly across the screen, people were all wowed and in awe. I think many people here just need to get off their high horse and be realistic about the rest of the non-web-guru-I-visit-wht-every-minute-of-the-day. Business people that are not net gurus, most likely don't think like net gurus.

"In my opinion, they are way below the average."
I agree, but they are the one offering the job, and obviously people out there (including me!) need the work and are willing to accept the job. I have been amazed by what some people will pay for web work. Checking out a local company, I discovered that they charged well over $2000 for a simple 5 page website. Now before you all go jumping on the 'you forgot all the consulting and research that goes into the website" platform. These site are/were terrible, my 7 year old could have designed something that looked better. BUT there are people willing to pay those fees out there and so there are people out there who will use that to get as much as they can.

"The least that our artists spend is 3 hours!"
Funny I thought creativity was a sort of spontaneous thing, not a planned out science. I bet some classical paintings took some artists a day, where as some took months. I don't think time has anything to do with whether or not a logo is good. Your artist thinks for 10 minutes and gets a great idea, puts it together in 20 minutes and then sits around for another 2.5 hours.....do you charge the client for 3 hours?

“The artwork that is done on each logo is to be considered. Also the conceptualization of the logo should be factored in. These two things require creative minds and a lot of imagination. We appreciate the design of our artists and how they love and value their work.”
I agree. If a client think that that particular design is just perfect for their company, they will most likely pay whatever amount you want them to.

(too large to quote)

Re: Swish... the curved, arched designs in logos. Not the Flash sidekick :D

About freelancing etc. What's wrong with being paid for your work? I charge $65 /hour for graphic/logo design, with 2 hours minimum. Why? Because I don't do templated work and all my customers are referrals.

Anyway, I am not starting a price war here, just trying to offer some advice. Artists should be paid for their work! By killing your prices you are not doing yourself a favor.

Thanks for the comment snikle!

I agree with you that creativity is spontaneous. Yes it is! When our design artist had the idea, it would at least take him another 2 hours or three to render it --- draw it by hand, color it in photoshop, etc. And in my observation that takes at least 3 hours. Sometimes it takes more than that. Our design artist is a little bit meticulous when it comes to details. :)

And yes, I do agree that time has nothing to do with it. It is more on how much effort the guy puts into it and how the client looks at it. We sometimes designed a logo that we feel good about and we thought it was really great, but the client simply said not good at all. He did not even bother to comment so that we could at least make some improvement or come up with a new design. But, that is life and we simply don't question it and just happily give a refund. :)

Thanks for the time reading.
