Are you thinking they need more blinking and flashing banners and buttons? ;) Quite an attention getter :D While I'd personally get rid of those, besides that it looks nice (not much content yet).

Not what i thought i would hear.. When i got the spam and looked at the site.. First thing that hit me was Old HostSearch Design and TopHost for some reason..

Not saing they copied any thing at all.. Host search did have a good layout after all.. :)

We got spammed by them too. I just laughed at the name. Hostsgalore? What kind of name is that? I didn't even visit the site.

First thing that popped into my head was that it looked identical to a site that I had visited in the last few days.

Hosting Magazine or something... not sure..

You are spot on the money, Vortech. It is very similar to the old Top Hosts design. There are only so many deviations to a design for this type so we used the layout of Top Hosts. But keep in mind we have coded this site from the ground up, so nothing has been copied.

Hosting Directories are of great benefit to end customers, hosts and to the directory owners as well. Everyone is a winner.

I hope you have signed your plans up and get good use out of the site. It has a few features that none other has, like monitoring your search hits, plan views and web site stats.

As for the name, bitserve, and without trying to appear condesending (seriously); hosts (n), to host or entertain, and galore (adj) being an adjective and meaning 'in great numbers'. We thought that this would be a good name that reflects the true functionality of the site.

I hope this has cleared any issues up and feel free to ask if you need more information.

Kind Regards,
Patrick

Thanks for pointing that out... I knew it was some ones layout but could not remember to save my life.. I was thinking HostSearch, TopHost, WebHostDir.. I just gave up..LOL

But one thing left here.. You still SPAMMED bitserve and I, no idea how many others.. You said "I hope you have signed your plans up and get good use out of the site." i don't really like to deal with spammers so NO I DID NOT AND DO NOT PLAN TO..

Would be nice if you told me whereyou got our email from..

Thanks for your time..

I personally don't like SPAM either. Useless pieces of information selling products that are of no ue to me. But the mail that was sent was targetted to a specific group of companies that could only benefit from the services offered by Hosts Galore!. Everything to gain and nothing to lose.

I respect your view, Vortech, and understand that under the circumstances of our introduction to each other you have no desire to use our services. I can assure you, you will not receive another mail of this type from us or any of the other companies that receieved this notifcation. We apologise for any inconvenience or personal distress we may have caused.

However, there are other companies that have responded very well to the mail and have submitted their hosts in the hope that their companies can grow to level of yours where they can ignore free advertising offers.

As for how I acquired your email, and bitserve, we searched through Yahoo, Excite and Altavista and visited your sites directly. We ensured that the sites were up and running and that the mail that would be sent was directly relevant to your business. We thought this would be a better approach than just buying some software that would send a mail to a few million users, because that would be real junk mail.

Anyway, I hope you accept this public apology and wish you the best of luck for you and your company.

When you say bitserve, are you referring to me or the business that I work for? My name is mark. Are you really an entity named Hosts Galore? I find it odd that it can post to a user forum.

I agree with your definition of the term galore. How are a great number of hosts going to help someone narrow down their search? There were already a great number of hosts before your site? People looking for web hosting need a directory (an organized list), not a great number of hosts. It's a better name for selling hosts, because you have lots of them, than for providing a directory. It would probably be good for an adult web hosting site.

Anyway, any unsolicted commerical email is spam. I didn't solicit you for an offer. You say that you don't like spam either, and then you send it with the excuse "Well we're actually offering something that can benefit you" (paraphrased of course). That's what ALL spammers think!

Hi Vortech,

It's not just the layout either. The 'content' in the Hosting Guides are re-writes of the articles on WebHostDir.com. Infact, it's so obvious you could say that these are rip offs! Structure, paragraphs and subheadings are all identical but for an odd word changed here and there.

Shame indeed. Further to the plagiarism, they have even copied some of the file names and directory names from WebHostDir.com.

More serious is the issue of Copyright Infringement of our Forums. http://forums.hostsgalore.com is an identicle copy of http://forums.webhostdir.com.

Patrick,

It would be nice to see something original from a new entrant to the all ready flooded Hosting Directory market. You are not offering very much to any visitors that you may have and based on you business operations so far and without predjudice, I think many hosting companies would be very vary of working with you.

I strongly suggest you rectify all Copyright Infringements by Wednesday 3 April 2002 09.00am EST else Web Host Directory Ltd. will be forced to take the necessary actions to protect it's Intellectual Property.

Best regards

Tommy

Hmm, it seems you are right. We paid a company money to write these documents for us, over $200. I am rather pissed to say the least considering the damage this will cause. I will have them reviewed and if you are right, have them removed. And, undoubtedly, we will take action against the author to recoup our expense.

I am undoubtedly correct. The evidence is there for all to see.

If you are pissed imagine how we feel.   .Our proprieatary content has been copied and pasted onto another web site who shamelessly completely copies our About Us page.
