Great Content -> More of it -> Even more content -> visitors who think you're great and link to you -> SE rankings -> more traffic -> more revenue.

If you have a way to monetize your traffic right now other than Adsense then you could use PPC networks to jumpstart your traffic.

I think the most work must be put into the content and site itself. As I visit the sites I think are great informational places, the same thing happens with our sites when we find the "key" to the visitors hearts. Adsense is a good choice, but you cannot have good revenue from a non visited, empty site. :)

You should review your site, check the contents and color combinations, you should improve it accordingly. The contents are the most essential part of the advertisement and its effectiveness.

You should further track and monitor your ad’s effectiveness. It would serve you to drain your cash flow to continue running ads that were not cost effective.

Check and review it further if it's not giving value of your advertisement costs, you should stop it and look for other alternative.

Or alternatively what some people will do is have very little content so the Google Ads stand out and thus are more than likely going to be clicked on. ;)

I think the contents should be improved for higher paying keywords.

I would like to add my vote for more content. The more Google has to chew on, the more better. Not only does it give Google more material from which to generate more traffic, they also serve better, more relevant ads.
