Hi,

I currently have 2 servers which are on the same network, both of them seem to be running fine, except there is about 5-10% packet loss to one of them, but there is no packet loss to the other. The packet loss appears to occur right at the server, the load on server is 0 so its not because the server is overloaded. What do you think the likely cause would be? We have already replaced the network cable from the router to the server, is there anyting else other than the nic card it could be?

I would change the NIC.

The network media, maybe? How do you know that it's happening at the server?

We can see on the tracert that the packets are being lost at the server.

It could possibly be caused by your firewall.

You mean between the server and the first router, right?

Can you post the traceroute results?

If you don't think it's still the NIC, it could be any of the hardware between it and the router, or it could be a software problem. The easiest way to test it is to bring a laptop over to the machine with a known to be working cross over cable and the right software (even just ping is useful). Or if you have one, some type of network or protocol analyzer.
