Hi

I seem to be having major problems finding a NT/Win2k reseller.

I was going to use ADEHost but they are not taking orders right now.

Can anyone recommend a reseller?

Thanks

Try swiftyhost.

I have been with exa-bytes in past and chan was very helpful.

Response time for tickets was very good (at least for me).

They have obtained a server and have colocated it in Ventures Online. I think they will have a good service on this server.

As tempting as it may seem, stay away from M6.net. They have no idea what they are doing, as is demonstrated by their own website.

:kaioken:P.S. - You'll also lose ALL of your email about every 3 months!!!

LFChosting.com looks good. I sent them a presales question and their response was fast, friendly and knowledgeable. Howev, they only resell windows hosting if that's what you want. No Unix/Linux there.

Except price, what advantage does Linux have? Reliability, security? Are the advantages real, or like saying DSL is faster than cable modem?

I know there is a flipside. NT/2000 can host Access databases, and there are probably other MS-specific items that Linux cannot handle (although I have seen adds claiming FrontPage extensions on Linux servers).

Obviously I'm a newbie, here, but those are my 2 cents.

Reliablity, downtime, and the big one to me is Security.. A default install is way more secure than any win2k box, and if the admin knows his stuff in linux. You can lock that sucker down tite as a baby's butt!!! Never can get that in windows!!

the above is totally incorrect, a default install no matter what platform is dangerous. Security in windows or Linux is difficult. if I measure uptime on my servers by security issues windows win's hands down for the past 7 months. Why? redhat has issued atleast 25 updates involving different moduals, each on seperate and weekly, while windows does there in batches.

your statement is totaly unfair, why would a unix admin do a win box install, if anything it would be for learning.

and as for locking a box tight. that I will agree with. Linux boxes can be made tighter with less money than a win2k platform. Cost per security issue is less on the unix platform

Never go with LFC hosting. I was with them for 2 weeks and I got 50% downtime with endless explanations that the fault was not theirs! At least I got my money back :D

Anyone offering Win NT/2k with SQL server and ENSIM CP.

Appolgy to EZsnake, I did not mean to be so negative towards your statement.

I struck out in anger because it's real hard to secure windows and it requires on average 4 times as much hours dedicated to is than to linux. sorry fo rthe mean reply.

so if you guys every wonder why windows is higher, that's part of it.

Did Mike say when they're going to take orders again?
If not: Mike, when are you going to take orders again? :)

Well I am taking orders, but only from established resellers and developers. I no longer tailor to the start-up resellers unless they are a clients that desires to get into host. then I will commit to them.

I agree, however my thinking on it was more based on small things like ur ports are closed and just gen better security.

Security in windows or Linux is difficult.

I agree completely and in no way meant either where easy to admin.

Ummm... for exact reasons you offer both types of servers?!?!
I myself am a MCP+I for 2000
However I know linux owns the web and this gives me reason to learn it (better). I want to and will be hostin on both servers and adminin them myself ( as I plan to stay small enuff to handle it(at times I know i will have to contract out.. no prob).. but after it gets goin I'm sure I can handle 2 servers... i have 2k box now ready to go..but can't afford co-lo yet so I'll prolly start w linux and choose a place i can purchase a dedicated linux box and place my 2k box at.

the Java is not fully implimented and secure to the servers so I have kept it up ( might move it to august ), Java is such a resource hog and a got to design test and impliment a run-a-way script catcher ( run-a-ways are the 1# cause of server downtime in Java in the win2k platform )

Could you imagine 110 clients to a server screaming bloody murder because a script went out of control LOL

as for reseller plans : I still offer them but to only established unix host or win host that desire to move to the h-sphere platform.

I have a big rule with the resellers ( infact there are 5 waiting on line as we speak ) Read the reseller manual, then I will confirm your new reseller account. I am greatful that the resellers that are coming to me are the "geek" type ( like me ) so they understand my basic request of manual reading.
