View Full Version : Webaliser....
-Edward- 12-27-2000, 12:58 PM Can someone tell me where to get the version that has .htaccess authentication enabled as the only version i've found is the one with it disballed -
http://pkg.nl.cobalt.com/i386/webalizer-1.30.04.i386.pkg
Chicken 12-27-2000, 01:06 PM The URL you posted will block access to domain.com/stats and limit entry to the siteadmin only. This is the exact version I have on my machine...
http://woobster.com/stats
eva2000 12-28-2000, 03:41 AM question, if the site doesn't have a siteadmin, can the server admin access the password proected stats ?
Domenico 12-28-2000, 05:51 AM Yes, that is no problem. The server admin can access it all the times. At least on our server that is ;-)

Chicken 12-28-2000, 11:25 AM Correct.
(SH)Saeed 12-29-2000, 05:44 PM I was wondering..
How much server resources does this webalizer take to read the stats? I mean, if a site gets a lot of hits, then the log files will be pretty big. Even though it runs once a day, wouldn't it take maybe even up to a few hours for it to read all those logs? And by doing this wouldn't the site be slow for the users?

Added: Damn typos.. :uzi:

interesting question which i'd like an answer to as well :)
kunal 12-30-2000, 01:26 AM I have been plyaing around with webalizer on my local machine, and it does slow down drastically with a 15mb log file. I have been looking for another analizer for a long time now. And no, the slow down is not because of my local machine. I have 256mb ram, and a p600 running :)
(SH)Saeed 12-30-2000, 03:01 AM Thank you! That's what I thought.. I think I will stick with HitBox.com, that way I won't load my server and have a VERY detailed real time stat of the activity on my page.

syanet 12-30-2000, 03:02 AM However, Hotbox will slow the load time on your page.

You could, save the hitbox image on your server and optimize it. The image shouldnt make a drastic difference image on the page load time though.
eva2000 12-30-2000, 03:06 AM hitbox was good, but try http://www.iclicks.com from mycomputer.com stats and US$0.10 per click
i am tracking 30,000 pageviews/day with iclicks and the stats are fairly good and more accurate that hitbox was
Domenico 12-30-2000, 07:42 AM Can you set a maximum size for the webalizer logfile ?
(SH)Saeed 12-30-2000, 12:38 PM Eva,
HitBox offers the $.10/click program as well.
Saeed
syanet 12-30-2000, 01:01 PM Not just the image though. I takes time to compute the hit. Run your site through http://www.netmechanic.com . It shows how long the loading time is on each graphic, text, outside links and so on.
