View Full Version : Clients using 2checkout?
webbist101 06-15-2005, 04:47 PM I'm a few days short of introducing some new hosting services, and wanted to question about some things. My niche is general cPanel shared/reseller accounts. Percentage wise, about how many of your clients use 2checkout? Is it worth adding to your list of payment acceptance methods?
SCRochester 06-15-2005, 05:00 PM If you can't get a Merchant Account then get 2CO. About 75% of my companies clients use 2CO, however, once we get a Merchant Account we will be moving all of our clients over and dropping 2CO. I'm not fond of PayPal really.
stokes_83 06-15-2005, 05:20 PM I have used both Paypal and 2CO and I can tell you that the percentage of visitors that bail out when using 2CO is much higher than that of Paypal. I wasn't so bad when they allowed custom headers and footers on the 2CO page, but when they removed it the rate of bailouts during the payment process skyrocketed for me. I since left and went to Paypal.
OnLine163 06-15-2005, 06:43 PM Maybe you should have explained to your customers right before the signup process
that you use 2CO for ordering and payment and that it has the following advantages:
1. secured ssl connection
2. you will never know their credit card details
I know that many customers hesitate to give their credit card details to online shops
they don't know very well so point 2. could be a good selling arguement.
It's only a question how you present 2CO on your website, in my opinion.
Corey Bryant 06-15-2005, 07:22 PM If you are actually based in North Carolina, and your volume is over $1,000.00 a month, a merchant account is usually cheaper than 2CO.
ThinkSupport 06-17-2005, 07:24 AM We use 2CO but their support sucks..
They will close you ticket with an update that the issue is being forwarded to the concerened department.
You have to get behind them to get the ticket responded.
kentcounty 06-17-2005, 12:01 PM Did I miss something? I signed up for a 2CO account months ago but never got around to using it.
Reading this, I find that the headers/footers option has been dropped, why? It was at least a good option and gives the 2CO pages a degree of customization and feel for your own site.

Haven't had that happen to me, their support has been alright. I've seen better but not horrid.

I found out about that too. I have no idea why they dropped them.
Coffeetown 06-17-2005, 12:47 PM I'm personally using 2CHeckout and PayPal, 2Checkout support is slow as i believe there are quite a number of peoples sending support ticket, i remember i gotton my reply only after 5 days, by the time, i have received their email, i have solved my problem so sometimes i do wonder if there a need to send a support ticket to them unless the problem lie with their system.
2Checkout should be a better option if you dont have a merchant account and their rates is so much higher comparing to paypal.
But i personally prefer paypal due to some reasons but too bad it limited it payment to only some countries.
but i have to commend on Paypal support, it kinda of bad, i remember sending 6 email to them in 2 weeks time and so far, they only reply twice, and in all the 6 email, i ask them to same question but when i received the 2 email from paypal, they don't seem to be answering my enquiry but trying to explain some other things which is not what i have ask them in the first place, as usual until now, my problem with paypal is yet to be solve and is still pending and still waiting for their reply even after 2 weeks.
webbist101 06-17-2005, 01:38 PM Yeah, I sent in some emails to 2checkout questioning about the services and I got a reply 2 weeks later (this was about a month ag). However, PayPal's customer service sometimes doesn't respond at all. A couple weeks back, they screwed up some crap with my bank account (which remains a problem), and when I tried emailing them, after like 3 weeks I got a automated response saying they were busy blah blah blah and I should contact their phone. For the last 3 weeks I've tried contacting them on the phone, but everytime it says they have a high call volume and put me on hold for 20+ mins, until I eventually hang up. To be honest, I don't even know if they have real phone service...
christowang 06-17-2005, 02:03 PM Seems like everyone in this thread has a problem with Paypal and 2CO.
Are there any alternatives that people may have looked at besides getting a regular merchant account?
qwidjib0 06-17-2005, 02:48 PM We used 2co to cater to some of our foreign customers for a while, but the fees were pretty aweful.
We now use Authorize.NET, PayPal, and StormPay, with all billing handled through ClientExec. This setup really seems to cover all of our bases, and we haven't really had any issues with having to turn people away since.
Coffeetown 06-17-2005, 02:55 PM What is the different between Authorize.NET and 2Checkout?
In term of payment rates?
AutoRune LTD 06-17-2005, 03:45 PM 2Checkout is BAD. Lack of support, they don't help, very unprofessional, its like a thing "we got your money" "now - off".
I am still waiting for my bank wire, that I was assured would be paid to me in April! Brilliant stuff.

The big benefit from Authorize.NET is that you don't have to worry about waiting on your customers to pay - it deducts money from their CC account automatically. You also don't have to wait two weeks for money to be tied up somewhere before it's deposited in your account.

2CO is somewhat like a 3PP - you are using their merchant account to accept credit card payments. And actually their business plan is basically like: 2CO is reselling your services / products for you.
Authorizenet.com is not a MAP (merchant account provider). It is an electronic payment gateway like LinkPoint and Verisign's Payflow. You still need a merchant account as well an electronic payment gateway to accept credit cards
