I currently provide shared web hosting services and would like to kick off a reseller/affiliate program. I was hoping to get some feedback to find out what resellers look for in a hosting provider.

Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Private nameservers, sub-resellers, overselling.

Remember that reseller accounts take up much more load on a server than shared accounts. Just make sure your cost justifies that on your end so you can afford to undercrowd your servers.

Tomer,

Currently, there isn't a stable way to use sub-resellers and allowing resellers to oversell isn't always the best move for the host.

Thanks,

You can allow your resellers to oversell since you don't oversell your self in servers destinated to reselllers...

I was thinking about allowing resellers to sell predetermined hosting packages rather than selling them a large chunk of space and bandwidth and allowing them to do what they want with it. What do you think about this?

Also, I would never allow overselling. I want to make sure my customers are very happy with service and support. Overselling will just cause problems in the end.

I don't know wich control panel you use but in cPanel you can allow resellers to create theire own packages only if the packages fit under theire resourses...

overselling can create problems if done wrong, however it can be the extra boost that your business might need in the beginning stages.. with thousands of web hosts out there, overselling might just be the key you need to be successfull. but thats just my .02cents. hope it helps :)
