Hostit365 will be setting up a new dedicated server in the next 1-3 weeks, and before I buy from the same data center we use now, I was wondering whether any of you could recommend some good places?

I'm looking for reliabilty and speed first, although price is also very important. Basically, it isn't worth it for me if I save 50 bucks a month but yet the network is slow, or has a lot of downtime (99.9% uptime or greater is an absolutely MUST).

I've been considering AffordableColo, DV2, NAC, VO... Just to name a few. I look forward to your recommendations. :)

After the 1st week in the new NOC, the VO uptime is 100%, at least is what I saw monitoring my servers.
I only had 1 downtime but was a problem in the switch of the rack not in the network.
I recommend VO :)

Thanks for the tip, I'll be looking at VO more closely. Just wondering, but what do you think of their support? If something goes wrong on the server, will they help out, or will you need to supply your own admins?

And further, do those prices include backups? Or will you have to pay extra for tape backups?

I don't colo there, yet. So I can't talk about that, I don't know if this service include any kind of support.
With my leased servers, the support has been great and still is.
You get responses in minutes most of the time, I never waited more than 30 min for an answer.

hey my suggestion is dv2 no doubt !!!

i have four servers with rachskack, ive had VO , ive colocated but i recently got a server from tranxactglobal and i Luv it !! so coool

specially if you need support they are what your looking for !

the amount of support Jeff (@ DV2) gave me in the 1st three days was more than what rackshack gave me in 3 months with having 4 servers with them !

good luck

NAC is top notch.

I recommend VO. They are not the cheapest around, but as Jedito already said, support is top notch and they are definitely not a one-man-show as some colo providers.
As far as I know they don't have tape backups.

Every time I call up DV2's number, I get a recorded message saying "Hi, this is jeff hinkle, I'm sorry I missed your call right now but it's important to me.. etc"

I tried calling at least 10 times, so that has my kind of concerned.

Thanks for the advice, I did that. But I would really like to talk to someone on the phone though.

Agreed (that's where were are now). The cost of bandwidth seems a bit on the high side though, and there has been the occasional outage recently.

Have you tried the DCJN network? Much better bandwidth pricing, and imo, it's just as good as the main NAC network.

No, I haven't heard of them even. What's their address? Do you have any servers there? What about support -- is it any good? (pwebtech support can be a little lagging at times)

Sorry about all the questions, you should probably getting back to supporting your own customers. ;)

It's a subsiduary of NAC's main network, minus a few providers. The providers for DCJN are:

AOL TimeWarner
Globix
Verio
Ardent
Mindspring
Digiex
Cogent
RCN
FNSI
Williams
Broadwing

I believe only Pegasus offer machines on the DCJN network, I don't think NAC do directly.
You can tracert to 64.21.181.98.
