We have had several orders in the past two days since posting this, but have been surprised at the low volume generated as a result of this promotion. I know there are less expensive hosting plans out there, but also know from experience that service at so many companies is a dirt-low priority. (Just look at all the threads on virtual hosting services!)

So here's my question:

Is the lack of response to this promotion due to
A. Too high prices?
B. Poorly written ad?
C. Poorly placed ad?
D. Wrong services offered for the current market?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks everyone!

No feedback at all?

I believe price may have a part in it, but also others may be leary of dealing with companies that have only just started advertising in these forums.

The other thing I can spot which has nothing to do with you, is that this offers section of this forum seems to be more popular with the server and reseller group rather than the hosting packages people.

Just an opinion and not a knock in anyway.

...and much appreciated, thanks!
I had noticed the same, that this forums seems primarily populated by hosts. If we were selling dedicated servers, I would imagine it might beget more response.
As for pricing, I am hard pressed to figure out how to compete with people claiming to offer 20 GIG transfer for $5/month. I don't know how they can stay in business doing that. I know we couldn't. We have been around for a while and plan to stay around for years to come. Being in it for the long haul like that, it seems unconscionable to oversell bandwidth in order to capture market share. That said, are there specific pricing changes you would suggest making?
Finally, as for being a new advertizer here... I guess that's just the breaks. Before long we will have become a familiar presence. It will just take time. :)

Thanks again for your feedback! Very thoughtful.

The majority of server packages that are being offered here are getting their bandwidth with Cogentco. Some would say while it lasts, others are quite confident that they will be around for awhile. That is one of the biggest selling points at this time (cheap bandwidth), but like everything in life Cogentco will eventually have to deal with over-demand, and of course abuse, as their 300 gig offerings sure aren't bringing in big dollars for them, but at least they are getting their lines leased. In my opinion they are trying to stave off backruptcy, as no other company can seem to match their bandwidth prices.

If you take for example sailors package which is quite popular even at the basic $139.00 package. If you were to throw on a couple of extras to bring the server up to grade as a hosting company, you would still be in the $250 to $300 range per month, and you have 300 gigs of bandwidth to work with.

Offer even a low $5 dollar plan which could be considered generious with 3 gigs of transfer, and you could look at 100 customers (3 x 100 = 300 gigs) $5 dollars x 100= $500. You pretty well will have doubled your make on just the one server, and yet still have a low user to to server ratio. Now the majority of customers won't use th 3 gigs that are alotted to them, so if we were to say that you could fit 150 on one server that would still be quite reasonable for 300 gigs of bandwidth, so now your talking about $750 a month on your $250 to $300 investment. This is still not even taking into account that you can still purchase additional bandwidth for cheap, so many are loading those servers to the max and pulling 3 to 10 times their investment out of it as a result, and that's only on one server. Great while it lasts, but just like RAM and CPU prices last year, eventually all things go back up.

I know. The cogent bandwidth craze is out of control. It's hard to convince someone that diverse network connections are important when there's a big network out there which sells bandwidth so cheap.
It's true, their lines are leased, but at what cost to their survivability? As you point out, bankruptcy is probably just around the corner. They'll be bought by someone when they file, and prices will float up to more reasonable levels.

In the meantime, how can someone like me (who would like to avoid the upheavals and carrier changes, etc) maintain a healthy business? I have found that the delivered-upon promise of superior service/support is a real plus. It's hard to get that in hosts, ESPECIALLY on the low end. But there are a lot of people who don't think they need support (self-styled experts) or don't think it's worth paying a couple of bucks per month extra for.
So the big questions is, how do we wait out the demise of those overselling their futures?
