View Full Version : Cpanel Installation
about2flip 03-24-2002, 06:24 AM Does anyone know how to install CPANEL on the RaQ 3i? I can't find good install docs on this application.
I went to cpanel.net, but the docs are not there. I downloaded the cpanel-redhat6.2-install.sea.
Thanks for your Help in advance.
AlaskanWolf 03-24-2002, 06:58 AM its really fruitless to install cpanel on a raq......get a real linux machine and install cpanel on that.
very unlikely even if you did wipe the hard drive, cpanel would install, raqs are really woven tightly into both the hardware and system from what i've heard in the past.
better off getting a real box or stay with cobalts awesome slow old fruitless interface :)
mahinder 03-24-2002, 08:18 AM but how the one can install cpanel on vanilla brand new machine with standard REDHAT Linux 7.1 installed. Will it install automatically all the stuff I mean, bind, apache, exim, proftpd, interchange and all that etc. etc. goodies software comes with it.
Aha, Just wondering, actually never installed a web server always my web host install for me. :)

are you saying the cpanel is not made for the raq? I read all the post stating that cpanel was the way to go on the raq.
can anyone out there tell me if cpanel will work?
thanks again
Chicken 03-24-2002, 11:06 AM I'm not sure where you saw those posts, but you may have misunderstood what you read (?) -as others said, if you want a cpanel powered server, there's little sense in using a RaQ as the base for it. Any advantage that a RaQ has (the OS and cp) would have to be wiped off the machine (far as I know).
Cpanel is not made for the RaQs.
Incognito 03-24-2002, 11:35 AM This would be something like buying a brand new car then immediately replacing the engine with that from another brand of automobile and replacing the interior with custom seats. You would probably have difficulty ever getting the drive train to work with the engine. If somehow you did, you might like what you ended up with, but you sure took a strange route to get there.

Are you confusing the "control panel" that comes with raq, to Cpanel, which is a separate type of product?
Peter
mahinder 03-24-2002, 02:42 PM ok guys, I think now about2flip got info. that cpanel is not worth to be installed on RAQ. but the original question remain as it is !
How the one can install C PANEL since no documentation is available for installation of it. !
any ideas !!!!!
All you Linux gurus, please wake-up. :o
about2flip 03-24-2002, 02:45 PM HI:
Thanks for the advice, so there is no replacement CP for the cobalt RaQ server, huh?
So all these webhosting company's that use cobalt raq's, there customers are using the CP that came the RaQ? That's sucks if it is true.
Thanks
Chicken 03-24-2002, 03:10 PM There are addons, but the cp integrated in the OS of the RaQ, so yes, the webhosting company's that use cobalt raq's, their customers are using the CP that came the RaQ. As someone else said, you can think of the hardware of the RaQ as the car and the OS (and cp) as the engine. If you want a BMW, buy a BMW, don't buy a Toyota Camry and put a BMW engine in it. Somewhat valid analogy. I'm sure there are better, but it was used above...

I was also puzzled the first time i downloaded it , but figured it out soon.
the cpanel file which is available for download is a huge script of aroung 70-80 mb if i remember correctly.
It runs like any other script on unix , about the softwares you mention well the machine you install it on must be connected to the internet and the Cpanel script would check for the package itself on the local machine , if it does not finds it it will automatically download the package from the net and install it and configure it. they also give you trial licence ofcourse you have to request for it. :)
thats all i can remember right now
