TradeViceroy 03-23-2002, 07:01 PM Does this only work with your company....? Are you selling it? What?? :P
I'm kind of confused...are you just sending out a press release?
sam.moses 03-24-2002, 03:09 AM interesting concept.
Who is your intended target audience?
The program is designed to make life easier for our customers. :)
ckpeter 03-25-2002, 12:12 PM The program looks nice. But how is a desktop control panel better than a web based panel?

We understand your need to provide us with links to as many press releases as possible, but would it be fair to ask that you provide answers the the questions that everyone else on the board is providing you?
PERL SCRIPTOR 03-25-2002, 04:55 PM What language did you use to program this? C, C++, VB, C#, VB.Net?
>interesting concept.

New comers to experienced web developers.
>The program looks nice. But how is a desktop control panel >better than a web based panel?
Remember that it is powered by CPANEL/WHM, so it works in conjunction with a web-based system. However, to answer your question, it is NOT just a control panel. It is a complete control center which includes Tray bar access, integrated web browser, integrated support ticket generator, integrated traceroute tool and more!
Basically, you get a whole variety of tools included which can be accessed quickly and easily via a menu system on your Windows tray bar.
The reason why it is 'better' than a web-based system is the ease and convenience it provides for virtual hosting customers. Before, users had to open their browser, enter their CPANEL/WEBMAIL URL, enter their username and password. After they login, they would then have to locate a certain feature, say "Add FTP Accounts", and then go on from there!
With Hostman, a customer simply clicks on "Control Center" and then "Add FTP Accounts". No need to wait for their browser to load the web-based control panel, everything is quickly accessible from their desktop, just like the Windows Control Panel. Even submitting a ticket is easy. Just click on the tray icon, and instantly fill out a form and away it goes to our support desk.
>What language did you use to program this? C, C++, VB, C#, VB.Net?
This program was coded in Delphi.
WebSun 03-25-2002, 06:02 PM Hi,
Is it possible to buy your Virtual Hosting Software or it's just for your customer?
If yes can you give us the price? or license fees?
Thank you

By the amount of times I counted "exclusive to imhosted.com" on their site, I wouldn't expect it.
A good idea, and long overdue. Best of luck.
grandad 03-26-2002, 07:40 AM Can't get any response from Imhosted web enquiry form or email so guess I might as well try here!
Are your Gold packages shared-hosting or virtual dedicated servers?
grandad 03-26-2002, 01:52 PM Lights on but nobody's in!
grandad 03-26-2002, 05:19 PM What on earth is the point of advertising your presence and services if you don't respond to any enquiries? A total waste of space.
Kristin 03-28-2002, 07:16 AM I would love to have some of my questions answered as well.
It looks like ImHosted has alot to offer and I'm very interested.

iWebLancer 03-28-2002, 03:42 PM We sent 2 messages to them and they never answered us at all, we wanted a test account to evaluate.
After downloading the software and looking around, it shows some promise but there is currently another in production right now that is much, much better.
I'll see if I can get permission to release a link, it's a well kept secret for the past 6 months because of development details and it's not finished but they have been adding to their website for last 2-months and it's getting close by the looks of it!
FloHost 03-28-2002, 04:29 PM
Kristin 03-28-2002, 05:33 PM Maybe their forms don't work on the website!
If you can, please pm me, and let me know who this
NEW host will be with their website address. Thanks.

manmythlgnd 03-30-2002, 08:50 AM I was looking at ImHosted's Network Information page and had some rather interesting findings.
1) Trying to pass off Equinix IBX datacenters as their facilities while giving no credit to Equinix: http://www.imhosted.com/facility.shtml
They do not even attribute this trademark to Equinix. You can go to www.equinix.net and see:
"Internet Business Exchange, IBX and Any Mode Any Speed are trademarks of Equinix, Inc.
Any use of these trademarks or service marks is prohibited by law unless expressly licensed by Equinix, Inc.
©1999-2002 Equinix, Inc. All Rights Reserved"
I don't think Equinix's legal department would care for this much.
2) Trying to pass off Level 3's network as theirs. The map on http://www.imhosted.com/network_info.shtml has the tagline "ImHosted Network Connection Map". Click on it and it's the Level 3 network map. Trying to pass of your provider's network as yours is so 1998-1999. u
The most amusing is definitely "ImHosted™ runs the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP4) for best case routing. Our entirely switched, Cisco powered network employs Cisco GSR 12000 class routers running HSRP (N+1 hot fail over) to ensure that data can be routed even in the event of a router failure. The BGP4 protocol is a standard that allows for the routing of packets of information sent out from our network."
Do a s/ImHosted/Our internet service providers/g and then it's legit. Hey, oSM, if you're running BGP, what's your ASN?
I was going to further debunk this claim, but then when I checked the IP's of their web server, name servers and mail exchangers I saw that they were all SWIP'd to NAC. A traceroute will show that they are hosted with pwebtech.
It's hard to trust a hosting provider guilty of false advertising. Buyer beware.
Change 03-30-2002, 01:51 PM Just wanna add to this thread that buyers should be aware indeed!! I've had a trial account where I did not get ANY reply to my support tickets (not even after DAYS waiting). Good thing their billing department *does* answer so at least I got my money back (after threatening to contact my credit card company and some lame excuse that they tried but it failed - I needed to email them to get to know this!!).
Seeing their new (?) reseller packages I decided to email sales with some questions about their (ridiculous) AUP, but again no response after days..
So PLEASE be very careful when doing business with them!
(It's a shame really because their site design is fantastic and this Hostman XP idea is really nice as well...)
I was looking at ImHosted's Network Information page and had some rather interesting findings.
1) Trying to pass off Equinix IBX datacenters as their facilities while giving no credit to Equinix: http://www.imhosted.com/facility.shtml
* Did you read the first line on that page??? It clearly states that 'ImHosted.com EMPLOYS a world-class infrastructure".. Does it say "ImHosted OWNS?
2) Trying to pass off Level 3's network as theirs. The map on http://www.imhosted.com/network_info.shtml has the tagline "ImHosted Network Connection Map". Click on it and it's the Level 3 network map. Trying to pass of your provider's network as yours is so 1998-1999. u
* I don't know whether you're just a jealous competitor or what??
If you look at that IMAGE it shows:
IMHOSTED :: Network Connection maps
The tagline IMHOSTED is put there so people don't steal images.
Besides, after you click on that, it shows a network map that HAS LEVEL3 written all over it. Also do you notice the separator '::'
* Again, refer to the top post. We utilize/employ a few data centers which use BGP4.
I was going to further debunk this claim, but then when I checked the IP's of their web server, name servers and mail exchangers I saw that they were all SWIP'd to NAC. A traceroute will show that they are hosted with pwebtech.
* The domain ImHosted.com is located at pwebtech. By the looks of your statement, your trying to make out that we only use 1 data center??
It's hard to trust a hosting provider guilty of false advertising. Buyer beware.
* Our faciliy page hasn't been updated in awhile. We use over 7 BANDWIDTH carriers and several data centers.
Keep it cool though, if you want Hostman XP it will be available one day. We are thinking of customing it for other hosts. :D
grandad 03-30-2002, 05:02 PM Whatever - here's at least one customer you've lost and I bet there are more!

Unfortuntely, your experience with ImHosted was bad. We cannot do anything about the past except try our best to learn from our mistakes and improve things for future clients (which we are working very hard to-do). However, for the few that are mad, there are many, many others who are satisfied. :)

Well.. the thing is, it's not just me and not just once. Exactly the same thing happened to others. I have not read one good thing about ImHosted here and support seems to be non-existant. How can you have a webhosting business without offering support?? Or even a responsive sales department?
You're telling me there are many, many (that's quite a lot) others who are satisfied, while I have not seen *one* example.....
