View Full Version : Looking for new host from MCHost
Yo-chan 03-23-2002, 06:18 PM I am currently with MCHost, and I am disappointed with their
service. Especially with support since they don't answer your
question quickly. Maybe it is normal but I was with VenturesOnline and their support was excellent.
For those of you considering MCHost, I will warn you think about the host with good support and host with slow sopport.
Now, I am looking for a good reseller program with fast support.
It would be nice if I can create my own plans.
Anyway, please tell me a good reseller you think.
Thanks!
Jedito 03-23-2002, 06:31 PM how about venturesonline? :)
Yo-chan 03-23-2002, 06:36 PM Yes, that is one of my consideration.
I just want to know others that I haven't thoght about and good hosts.
Jedito 03-23-2002, 06:44 PM Sincerelly I deal with a lot of host in the last 4 years, I never saw a service like the one that VO gives.
Now I have Dedicated servers with them, and I can't be more happy with my election.
Incognito 03-23-2002, 09:37 PM What do you consider good support...a reasonable time to respond?
Ginga 03-23-2002, 10:30 PM I'd recommend a ukname.net reseller plan
support, uptime and speeds are great.

i've used them since December 2001, feel free to email me at ginga@farmwars.com for a list of a few domains I host with them
jdessel 03-23-2002, 10:39 PM check out Splashhost.com
I think they're great :wavey:
Just got set up with them and they're fast, reliable, great support

Fast response and reliable service and good options, i guess.
Yo-chan 03-23-2002, 11:12 PM Thank you for your suggestions!
I will consider them.
I'd have to agree with Jedito, VO has the best support ever. Their response times are amazing. You can usually get a response within 10 minutes. Once, I got a response in about 3 minutes. Don't get too spoiled though. Don't expect the same service from other providers if you move away.

check out Splashhost.com
I thought about them, but now they offer plans to end users, not just resellers. I don't want to compete with my service provider like that.
semck83 03-24-2002, 01:34 AM I've just signed up with Cyberwings.com. The support is truly outstanding, and the prices great. I'd recommend taking a look. :)
All the best,
Stephen

I believe the other companies mentioned here sell normal hosting plans as well.

I think what he meant was "what is a reasonable time to respond." I'd like to know as well :)
decebal 03-24-2002, 01:36 PM For what you're looking try http://www.splashhost.com but to be convinced do this:
1. ask in forum some questions
2. try talking directly on chat with Alan
I'm personally pleased by his service (including the fact that he has a new apprentice)
Good luck ;)
Maniac 03-24-2002, 09:22 PM What do you think "Fast response" is? Under 20 minutes?
NexDog 03-25-2002, 02:55 AM Fast response=get on live chat=immediate resolution to problems. :D
TheMMIz 03-25-2002, 05:25 AM I must add my two cents where it is not needed. Ive have accounts with AffordableHost, ValuableHost, CyberWings, and VenturesOnline, all of which leave me 100% satisfied, but I must say VenturesOnline support is by far the best.
Yo-chan 03-25-2002, 05:34 AM Just let you guys know...
I signed up with splashhost and the support is really nice just like VO.
IceBlaZe 03-25-2002, 06:34 PM Yeah splashhost is truly great :D

They offer the best support I have seen!
MikeMike 03-28-2002, 07:16 AM I was in the MCHOST hell also. I have not experienced a worse host EVER!
I got an account with OLM.com and it was such a relief to get response to problems within 5-10 minutes. MCHOST took 24 HOURS! OLM have been in business for many years and I realize that is a big plus when you are searching for a new host. MCHOST started June 2001 and they just haven't had the qualifications to handle a rapid growing business.
MCHost-Marc 03-28-2002, 11:01 AM MCHOST took 24 HOURS!
All our accounts take around 12 hours, some take longer because we wait for the credit card verification to go through before setting up an accounts with the possibility of a fraud order.
MCHOST started June 2001 and they just haven't had the qualifications to handle a rapid growing business.
That why we have employed several more employees and will continue to do so in the next days/weeks :)

I really don't care what you guys are doing or not doing. The only thing I care about is keeping my sites online. If you don't understand that then you should stay away from the hosting business.
Obviously you don't understand it, because if you did you wouldn't just shot my site down without a warning when it reach the max monthly bandwidth or shot it down if it use to much CPU or memory. You would email a warning and offer a suitable plan. After all, I got your permission from the very start to install the scripts I had installed and not a word did I get from MCHOST before I asked the support why my site was down.
MCHost-Marc 03-28-2002, 04:24 PM Mike, we do understand. We didn't just shut down your site, but if this is the website i think you're talking about, we suspended the script because it caused extremely high loads. I am very sorry, but we cannot have the server spike to 10.00 with the loads every few minutes. You will have this problem with any shared host unless you go semi-dedicated or dedicated. Please contact me over email if you have any further questions.
decebal 03-28-2002, 04:33 PM Considering that i'm right now a Splashhost fan I must support Kiwi considering the load on their server. I only hope that if i'm doing this my hosting comp. sends me a warning before closing me down.

Sometimes you can't send a warning.
I'll explain with an example.
I use to host a forum, the first month he rarelly got any trafic, one day I got an alert of a server load of 27, when I check what account was caused that, I saw that it was that forum.
We can't wait until this person get the warning email with a server load of 27+, so we suspended the account and after that we sent the email telling him why his account was suspended.
Of course he was upsed and request the account cancelation, we did it. I prefer to lose 1 customer and not 100.
MikeMike 03-28-2002, 04:47 PM That script have been running on the server for 8 month and I got permission to install it. That was the reason I started with MChost in first place. Whatever you shot my site down or not, you did something so my script couldnt run and I was NOT notified.
Your suggestion about semi-dedicated or dedicated server would have been very welcome while my site was still running. Don't expect me to make any changes if I am not aware about any problems.
Magic 03-28-2002, 07:38 PM Mike i agree with you... i have seen mchost disable scripts without informing the client afterwards... extremely unprofessional practice if you ask me.
NexDog 03-29-2002, 12:45 AM Hi,
Sometimes it's impossible to wait. I once logged in to find a server spiking at 40. This basically shut the server down. If you were hosting your domain on that server do you think it would have been reasonable to wait while we emailed the owner of the script that was causing the problem to remove?
I replaced his script with a text file to contact support which he promptly did. The guy was a cgi developer and had coded an amazing script. He had just editted it and put a nasty feedback loop in by mistake.
Another issue that we just had was with a mailing script. It had gone beserk and sent out 30,000+ emails and caused the mail server to give up. In this case we were able to email the owner of the script and ask him to remove it as it didn't affect the server in general.
So, sometimes you have to act immediately, sometimes it can wait....
MikeMike 03-29-2002, 08:17 AM Of course you can't have one customer shutting your server down. But you can email him and offer him a plan matching his needs. If you read the posts above, you will see that MCHOST is shutting the scripts down without emailing the customer.
So, sometimes you have to act immediately, sometimes it can wait....
Thats another point. I had my site there for 8 month and I had no overnight major changes in traffic.
