there are ways around the $3.99 deal without any big "extra" costs. The offer is still up and running, for how long however is unknown.

What I'm about to post was originally posted at dnforum, then over at namepros and I couldn't find any previous post here so I thought I'd put the info here. There has been A LOT of discussing several places wether this is the right thing to do or not. Is it a loophole? Will godaddy freez your account? I'm 100% sure that if GoDaddy would mind and worry about this socalled "loophole" they would've remove the "traffic facts" option by now.

So here we go -

select domain name to register.
select checkout preference 'show me deals' (not expert checkout)
select 'add traffic facts' @ $1.99 per month (forget you do not have a website)
proceed to checkout, ensure you have additional $1 discount with the promo code (eg usa6)
cart should now read $4.24 for domain, $1.95 for traffic facts, discount -£1
cart total = $5.19.
pay!
proceed to managing domains
select payments and renewing items
check on item 'traffic facts'
select from menu 'cancel item'
done!

Here is the email RJ over at NamePros received from the GoDaddy president office concerning this issue:

Thank you for writing. We do offer a number of extremely well priced products that can currently server to reduce the price of domain registration. The $3.99 special price along with an inexpensive software product does present pricing and profitability issues that are still being addressed. As you may know, TrafficFacts cannot be refunded if it is cancelled, so we are not entirely convinced that that product combination is a viable loophole.

As we find loopholes and problem pricepoints within our system we generally act to close them. For that reason, we do not feel that our customers should consider a terrific price to be morally ambiguous. It's just an opportunity that may not be around for long.

That's about it :) Now it's time to make up your own mind and decide wether this is something you want to persue or leave alone. I know some people have regged hundreds of domains this way, GoDaddy may lose money right now but in the long run this promo will make them massive amounts of money.
