mrweirdo 03-23-2002, 07:25 AM Im curently looking for a remote tech job. I curently live in Roseville, California wich is on the northeast side of sacramento. I will be turning 18 this march on the 30th.
Basicaly I am looking into a tech support job as kind of a junior techie that is done remotely and alows me to make some money in the mean time.
I have experience already as a tech for zwshosting.com were i have been working there for quite some time. I have experience with plesk, cpanel, and ftp. Im curently working on learning SSH. I also have experience with ftp and seting up and installing php and cgi scripts. I also have some very limited knowlege on modifying php code. If youre company or a company you know needs a tech support guy that can anserw support tickets, emails, or chat please let me know about it eather here or by sending an email to webmaster@undaworld.net .
I'm offering my comments as a piece of advice - please don't get offended, I am not trying to insult you, but rather help you ...
If you truly want to do remote support work for someone (answering tickets and dealing with their customers), I would advise you to invest in a spell/grammar check program. I don't think you'll get too many offers from people that will want to put you on their 'front lines' if your responses to their clients are filled with spelling and grammatical errors.
Again, just trying to help - please don't read too deep into this, and Happy Birthday (a little early, I know)...

Mirage-ISP 03-23-2002, 02:08 PM That piece of advice could have been sent to him via pm. This is a kid trying to make it, and as good as your intent is, he might just be demoralized by your sharp critique. I know I do not use a spell/grammar check to type in any forum. Maybe other people do. I could punch a hell of a hole in YOUR post, and point out a heck of a lot of grammatical errors. :) And mrweirdo did state that he had done remote support previously, something that will get him that foot in the door. Goodluck mrweirdo. I have taken your email down.

It wasn't a sharp critique at all - it was a piece of adivce (which I clearly stated), to HELP him promote himself more effectively to perspective employers.

Neither do I, normally. But, I would if I were trying to get someone to hire me to communicate with their customers.

I wasn't trying to 'sell myself' in my post.
Goodluck mrweirdo.
I wish you luck as well. If you feel my advice won't help you, you are under no obligation to use it. queensoul, I think you missed the point that I was trying to help him. Apparently you missed the first eight words of my reply: "I'm offering my comments as a piece of advice"

Nope, I didn't miss ANY of your words. Hence, I acknowledged that your intentions may have been good, but your critique was totally unnecessary and in my extremely humble opinion, patronizing and nitpicky. His post was completely understood, and the minor mistakes would perhaps have been dismissed, did you not point them out. But hey! I throw in the towel, you win gdh. I 'll leave the kid's post alone now.
acidHL 03-23-2002, 08:15 PM Now looks fellas you just turn this nice thread this guy opened to get a job into a flame war...
Just be nice. :)
NexDog 03-24-2002, 01:13 AM Hi,
We are looking for a tech to do these things:
Man chat
Answer emails
Monitor ticket database
Needs to be about 6-12pm your time, Tues-Sun.
We are quite new (4 months) but are growing quickly. We pride ourselves on providing excellent 24/7 support. Pay won't be much at first and the workload is light, only 2-3 hours of real work involved in a 6 hour shift. Your pay would increase monthly, however. I will also email you this message.
mrweirdo 03-25-2002, 11:00 PM i realize my spelling and gramer is all to good but its never been :P
/me is from california good public schools
anyways I have responded to NexDog and hopefully we can work something out if not other companys still have a chance to looking at me but I will have to tell you i do like his company :)
hopefully I can go to work for them soon
GWDGuy 03-28-2002, 07:20 AM Man to have spell check in this forum would be fantastic.
Anyway we are in the need with someone that has a GOOD working knowledge of:
RH7.1
Plesk 2.0 and 2.5 (I know it's new)
PHP
perl
and basic hosting questions such as; How do I set up my email in Outlook Express?? :)
We handle all our own support questions now and sometimes it can get too busy and we can't make more sales because we are busy "supporting" current customers.
Anyway we would be interested in talking to anyone that might fit this need. Minimal Part time work for now and of course as things progress it will increase.
Benefits and pay?? Let's talk.. We can tell you that we will offer all the Free frustration you can handle from customers.. oh yeah free parking in your driveway too.. :D
