Is it possible to put a wording "Hosted by xxx company" into my client's website without modifying his files?

Like those free webhost that places banner into every page of the website.

could it be done? thanks

Try to search in hotscripts.com, script to put ads in the customer pages...

I ask because I don't think paid clients would be happy to see
"Hosted by xxx company" on their website without their permision. While this is allowable if your are a free host, I certainly know I would be switching hosting companies if a paid host ever did that to me.

agree. unless he is a free host or his customers agree to it.

Yeah, unless he is free hosting or you specifically agreed this with your client I would steer well away from doing this. It dosn't look professional for your client so they will most likely leave. It also dosn't reflect all that well on you.....

Thinking same way, it will create bad impact and sort of confusion perhaps among the viewers and customers as well.

I know you can do it on a Windows server through IIS but can you do it on Linux?

with IIS you can insert i believe, footer but unless they are free hosting...it's not really a good idea to do this to your pay customers.

i think you can add a footer by php with php.ini ... I'm not sure, but i think i remember seing something like add code to page or something like that...

you can do it in your apache config, not 'quite' sure how though

I would make up a link tag and email your customers asking them to put it at the bottom of their pages. To go in there a put it in without there knowledge would be "un-ethical"
and I agree most clients probably would leave.

I am not a free host just that i gave my friend some free space to host his blog. So i was discussing with him how to put some banners or text about my hosting business without the need to touch his files.

So here i am asking for advice :) just to try out and find out if there is anyway a host could put some stuff on his client site. :stickout:

The best way to do it IMHO is to install mod_layout and turn on the directive for his virtual host. Then you can create a file to include as either the header, footer, or both on the page.

A much easier way would just be to ask him to add it on his page for you, he is getting free hosting after all ;)
