I did a quick search and did not find any info on this if there is already a post please forgive me... I was wondering how do you calculate ACTUALY gigabyte usage... I know you can get average and 95% from mrtg but since it only takes statistics every 5 minutes does it also do actualy usage? I was just wondering.

You can query the switch using SNMP to get the actual number of bytes in/out.

There are also a few MRTG log file analyzers out there that can help to calculate the totals, http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/links.html
