Does anybody know of an index of the "unlisted" websites, the mistreated, ignored, and outraged websites?
If there is none, I will set up one.

Submitting to search engines rarely works. Try getting links to your site from related pages. Links will help the search engines find you and you will get listed in a couple of weeks.

Webhosting is an extremely competitive industry, and some of the big names are happy to set themselves up with mass-marketed loss-leaders - ie, 1&1, Lunarpages, etc.

Because of this, any webhosting company that does not invest heavily in promoting themselves in search engines is going to find that they fail pretty miserably when it comes to generating traffic from search engines.

There are many different ways to even begin approaching the issue on a budget - I probably can't provide any links because it may be seen as self-promotion - but I can certainly advise that it takes serious money to get into prominent positions in search for hosting-related major keywords and longtails, so I'm afraid if you've not especially invested in this, then you are bound to be disappointed.

Btw - if you type in your URL into any search engine and it shows your site, it means that the search engine is quite aware of your site and that it exists.

Anyway, sorry I couldn't be of more help, but hopefully there's something useful for someone in the above.

There are many such directories and you can submit to many for free. Of course, nobody uses them so it doesn't really result in traffic which is probably what you really want.

I'm assuming that the link in your signature is your website. Am I correct? If so, were you really expecting to find yourself in Google or Yahoo under the term classic sports cars? That is an awfully competitive market. I agree that the search engines have some problems but in this case do you think they are bullies because you cannot find your site if you type in classic sports cars? There are about 1 million other people that want to be listed for classic sports cars too - hobbyists, blogs, directories, clubs, dealerships, etc. I wouldn't call the search engine process to be completely democratic but I wouldn't call it bullying either.

I would recommend you do a lot more optimizing of your site to include much more text. Even if Google or Yahoo crawl your site they will only see Classic Sports Cars once. Is it a site about classic sports cars or is it about Ferraris, Porches, Corvettes,.... Build lots of content that people want to read and repeat visit and link to. Most of all, be patient. You're competing with the world here.

people are by by google today. Google does not equal to the internet. There needs to be a place for the uncompetitive, low budget world, especially those who are tired of google.
I do not want to generate traffic with this messgae. Please do not click or look at any ads posted on my homepage. i will revamp my homepage soon. These ads will most liekly be removed.

It may be very easy to get your site listed well on a newly-created search engine or your own design or on a third-tier directory... but what good is it if potential visitors' searches aren't made there?

And, if you can't get traffic to your existing site because Google isn't listing you the way you'd like, how would you get traffic to your new search engine?

I feel your pain. Speaking from personal experience, I took me over a year to get one of my sites in Google.

My best advice is, if you have an advertising budget, is to buy as much text links as you can from sites with at least a PR4 (PR5 and 6 are prefered). You'll get crawled and indexed by Google in no time. Make sure your site is search engine friendly. Yahoo and MSN will soon follow and sending robots to your site.
