I am currently looking for a hosting provider to host our company's web site after I grew tired of dealing with *****'s support department. I came across uplinkearth.com and am impressed with their plans & prices, but cannot find any reviews about their service. I tried searching this site, Google, Altavista, Alltheweb, but the only results I get are advertisements and hosting indexes, which I don't trust anymore after I was referred to ***** through one. Does anyone have any experiences with uplinkearth?

I can't recommend any windows host unless you really need Windows hosting. But if you do, that's who we have been referring customers to who needed Windows hosting, ever since the gearhost fiasco/rant.

I haven't heard anything good from anyone that we've referred there, but haven't heard anything bad.

First of all - let me say that as I am with uplinkearth, I am flattered to see someone asking about us.

I realize that anything I post will be taken with a grain of salt, but I couldn't help but put my 2 cents worth in.

The following is an Email we received yesterday (I left their domain off because I don't want to post someone's private information without their permission):

From: Robert & Kiply
Sent: Friday, March 22, 2002 10:02 AM
To: myablonowitz@uplinkearth.com
Subject: THANK YOU

Dear Mr.Yablonowitz,

From the day we began hosting our website with Uplinkearth, we have been sooo impressed with the friendly helpful service.

Brian Roberts, Charles LaPadula and Chuck (I think that was his name) have been so friendly and patient with us and all the questions and difficulties we've confronted with our website. Of all the folks we enlisted to help us solve some frustrating problems, Brian and Charles of Uplinkearth were the ones who PROMPTLY got back to us and helped us resolve the problem. We felt they got personally involved and offered advice, other options and details (instead of being vague).

It's hard to express how grateful we are to them for their assistance. Please let them know they are making a difference!

Thank you!
Robert and Kiply Clair

Feel free to contact me with any questions...

Hello,
Looking to move 4 of my domains to a new host. Has anyone tried uplinkearth.com?

They seem ok. Found a couple of recommendations on this board, but would like to hear more so I do not go through another bad hosting experience. :D

Thanks in advance.

Update:

Thought I would post an update.

I contacted uplinkearth.com with some minor questions about their servers an service offerings. They got back to me within 4 hours. Is that pretty much standard? My current host can take up to 24 hours before they reply.

Still looking for your suggestions/comments regarding uplinkearth.com.

Thanks and have a great weekend!!

I too am looking for a ColdFusion Host with SQL Server capabilities. I am currently with LFC Hosting (a.k.a., LooseFoot), but their uptime is the pits. I thought I had found a good replacement in GearHost, but this forum's raging commentaries (including the CEO's responses) have scared me away.

In my search this afternoon, I came across UplinkEarth.com. Their prices seem extremely reasonable, but one thing that scares me is that their address is listed as 4 Cornwall Drive, East Brunswick, NJ. If you do a Yahoo! maps on this address, it's pretty clear that the location is in a residential neighborhood. I don't really want to be doing business with a couple of Rutgers sophomores who are operating a hosting service out of their fraternity basement via a DSL connection.

So, as Scott110 asked, does anyone have any experience with these guys? How's their uptime? How's their tech support? What is their technical infrastructure like? Etc.?

It would be great if someone other than a representative of the company or someone who has received free services from them would respond.

Thanks in advance.

Hi YokoOno,

I am with uplinkearth, and I realize you are looking for third party information about us, so I will not comment regarding our services, I'll leave it to others to respond as you asked.

I am only responding to your comment that you believe our office address is in a residential neighborhood because it is not, and I simply wanted to clear up any confusion.

Our offices are located in a 59,000 SF Commercial/Professional office building in an area which is primarily small/medium office buildings, with some retail and some residential sections nearby, and a few very large warehouses/industrial buildings just a mile or two down Cranbury Road (Fuji, Shoprite, Canon, etc).

I am not sure what you saw on Yahoo! maps that made you believe this is "a residential neighborhood", because it certainly is not.

If you have any specific questions you would like to ask me to answer as a representative of the company please feel free to Email them to me and I will be more than happy to answer them.

If you are unsure about anything I will try and make ir clear for you, also just so you know as it says on our site, we offer a no risk 30 day money back guarantee so you can try us out and decide for yourself if we are the host for you or not.

Best of luck in your quest for a new host!

I just signed up with them last night. Will let you guys know how it goes in a week or 2.

Waiting for DNS changes to take place.

I found a couple of articles on them via their web site. Here are the URL's:

http://www.100mostdynamic.com/2002/webhostlist.asp
(look under Windows® NT®/2000 Hosting)

And:
http://www.hostingcatalog.com/besthosts.pl?c=review&id=158

I performed a WHOIS and it shows their domain has been around since 97'.

Hello kwimberl,
Would you happen to have the URL for your church? How long have they been with uplinkearth?

Thanks

Note: Thread merged with another that seemed to about the exact same thing (in case it seems odd that people start asking the same question in the middle of the thread, that's why).

I am considering coming over to uplinkearth.com, as I liked all of their options for hosting, as well as the feedback here.

I did want to mention that to have Webtrends, it's an additional $5.00/month. I thought it was odd that they did not show that as a feature in their list. It seemed to be a hidden cost to me.

Who wouldn't want their monthly traffic stats? So the fact that the cost was extra, and I had to inquire about it, has made me a little hesitant about signing up.

Well it's been almost a week since I signed up with UplinkEarth.com.

So far so good.

Trouble Tickets are usually answered within 2-3 hours.

They did not offer CDONTS but they installed ASPmail for me.

Like MsWas mentioned, they charge an addiotional $5/month per domain if you want WebTrends. I installed my own stats script instead. Works ok. You can download it at http://www.2enetworx.com/dev/projects/statcountex.asp

Servers seem fast so far.

I like the fact that you can host additional domains under your main domain at no additional costs. So you can actually have 2 or more seperate web sites using one account!! :)

Howdy everyone!

Well, I just picked up a nice new dedicated server @ Uplinkearth -- http://static.adrun.net -- to serve banner ads with to our network of sites.

Here is my breakdown of the awesome service they provided us:

Service = A+
Server Speed = A+
Quality of Hardware = A+
Connection = A++
Support = A+
Everything Else = A+

Uplinkearth has made my list of hosts that I would buy from on a dime. I highly recommend them to everyone.

Full disclosure: I forgot to add this, my mistake. Uplinkearth does advertise with us on our hosting directory. This did not play in my post, though.

While it's nice of Dan from HostingCatalog.com to offer such kind words about UplinkEarth, it would have been even nicer if he had disclosed to everyone that UplinkEarth is a SITE SPONSOR of HostingCatalog.com.

I am still checking in on this thread to see if anyone other than 1) a member of UplinkEarth, 2) an organization that has gotten free services from UplinkEarth, or 3) one of UplinkEarth's vendors has any comments, positive or negative.

"Noto's" comments were helpful, but he/she has only been there for one week. It's still too early to tell.

Doesn't anyone, without some financial interest or dealings with UplinkEarth, have any feedback?

Thanks.

This is true, but that does not change the fact that I have a dedicated server with them, that we pay for like everyone else would. You can verify this by checking the WHOIS info on ADRUN.net.

It may indeed be true that you pay for this particular service "like everyone else would". However, all things being equal, no one should expect your comments regarding an organization that is also a "site sponsor" of yours to be made "at arms length". By definition, they are not.

In the interest of fairness, you should have disclosed your relationship.

That I should have, and I apologize for not doing so. However, my post was 'in all fairness' an honest expression of my experiences thus far with Uplinkearth, aside from our business relationship...

I should have noticed that you went back and modified your original post to include the disclosure and an apology.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be beating a dead horse...

But back to the original thread, who else wants to fill us all in on UplinkEarth?

I agree that their press, their prices, and their (pre-sales) support all look good. Doesn't one of their actual users want to chime in here?

Just signed up for an uplinkearth account on behalf of a client. I used the client's email as the username for the account. I guess information about FTP, etc. has been sent to my client, so I have to get the client to forward the information back to me.

What I'm trying to say here is that the FAQ on the site are not very helpful. The Questions may be Frequently Asked, but they are rather generic.

Maybe I should have set things up differently... but time will tell, and hopefully within 30 days.

Hi again,

Hey YokoOno, yes, I understand the way you feel. I too would want to wait until I read more posts.

I would now like to take this opportunity to inform you that I do work for UplinkEarth.net.

Just kidding.

Like I mentioned before, I just opened my account with uplinkearth.net and they still seem fine especially for a very low cost host.

My previous host, instantwebsitedesign.net, was also a low cost host but my site would be down at least once every 2 weeks. The down time was not long, but it added up. Plus they did not have a toll free number for me to call, and they took forever to reply to my e-mails. I sent a cancellation notice to my previous host on April 3rd and I have yet to hear back from them. They are completely ignoring me now that I am trying to cancel 2 of my domains.

I use InternetSeer.com to monitor my site daily, and according to them, my site has not gone down once since I started hosting with UplinkEarth.net.

I will be moving my client's sites over as soon as their 1 year is up at instantwebsitedesign.net.

Will keep you guys posted in case I experience any problems with UplinkEarth.net.

Guess you would like my domain, jldesigns.net

Later.

Noto,

I appreciate your continuing to keep this list informed about your experience.

Regarding the rest of ULE's users, however, the silence is deafening. Perhaps they just don't frequent this board...

I'm with LFC as well, and yeah, their uptime is ***sucking***, but in addition to that, they've completely revised their data transfer policy ("unlimited" now means 3GB/month!) and they've been taking money from a checking account they've been told ***repeatedly*** not to remove funds from - and it isn't even MY account! They've lied to the bank and said that my mother authorized them to take money from her checking account on March 27th - she didn't do any such thing, *wouldn't* do any such thing, and is currently considering taking legal action against them. I'm so angry! I feel violated by their change in policy, and to make matters worse, my email address is out there as a bright shiny endorsement of their services on some webhost review site. Grrrr!

Hello,

I have a reseller account with them. I have not used their service for a long time so I have not a long record of their uptime (Though I guess it is very well) but quality of service (speed of servers, response time etc) seems very good.

Support (specially Charles) seems to be friendly too.

AAnd something else, their website is designed very well and gets my A+ :) :)

OK yeah... I was too upset to mention, but you're right - those two features are pretty good. I've dealt mostly with Trevor, who is hella cool, and I do like their website and control panel.

BUT... so far, the negative outweighs the positive with them. :erm:

My experience with uplinkearth was not good as I had to pull out within a month, but that's only my view as I've seen that others like their services.

Their customer service does respond promptly, but I had to deal with too many half-hearted answers when it came to scripting issues to the point my friend and I just had to drop them. Also, the fact that their control panel leaves too much to be desired forces you to use those tickets more than you would like and slows down your time getting your site fully going.

Update:

Well have been with UplinkEarth.com since about April 1st. Tech support seems to be improving now. :D

Had one outage on my web sites (I have about 8 sites on the same server) but one call to tech support had the sites back up withing 10 minutes.

My overall experience so far is pretty good. Much better than the tech support I was receiving from HostPro/Interland.

Last night at about 8PM central time, 9PM eastern, our Uplinkearth server crashed and required a warm boot.

I called them and dialed the tech support extention, left a message and submitted a ticket.

Uplinkearth says they only work during business hours, however I beg to differ :) I got an E-mail a few minutes later from Charles stating that he had power cycled my server and that it is now fully online!

Remember, this is over an hour and a half after they closed shop for the day.

Hi,

I'm only new to this board, so haven't had a chance to answer this thread yet. Uplinkearth has been quite a good host for several of site I have worked on.

I have set up 4 different websites with them and am very happy with their support firstly and pretty happy with the uptime. There have been a few outages, quite minimal though and they have always told us in advance. No unscheduled ones that I can recollect.

Re: the 10 mb email - this was also an issue for us, but they are happy to group email accounts to make it one big one.. Ie..if you have one of the larger plans and are allowed some 25 email addresses, you can ask to have only 5 with 50mbs of space instead. This proved a good answer for us. Perhaps something they should make clear in their price chart.

Support has been the best part about them.. a couple of hours has almost always been my experience.. and I am operating from Australia, so it must be the middle of the night there! I'm pretty sure they do operate 24/7 from this experience.

In addition they have answered some of my questions regarding installing my own stats program very competently, which I really appreciated considering they charge for their own, so don't really benefit from me installing my own.

I can definately recommend them, especially to small / medium sites who want a reliable web presence.

Peter
