View Full Version : Backordering services

I'm looking into backordering a domain name, so I searched the forum for some backordering
services. I found snapnames, pool, godaddy, and something called clubdrop, but after
registering with clubdrop, they offer no backordering services whatsoever.

Why do people here think that clubdrop offers backorders? All I can find
are auctions on domain names that have already expired. Even the clubdrop site
has the word 'backorders' in the website title, but they don't offer that service,
which is extremely confusing and misleading, imho.

So, my question is, if there's a domain name registered with Enom that's about to expire
in a couple of weeks, and I want to backorder it, would clubdrop help me out on getting
it? Because they seem like a pretty useless service if they don't offer backordering.

Wow! This is news to me! I thought that Enom's ClubDrop had acquired over 100 names for me in the past four months alone.

It must have all been a "dream."

eNom Club Drop is an backorder service and one of the better ones. There site might not be the best to navigate through. You can click on Club Drop in the drop down menu from the main page.

I think you should have a look at ClubDrop Service FAQ:

Yes, I did look at their FAQ and everywhere else, but couldn't find anything.
The word 'backorder' is not even listed on their FAQ.

Like I said, it took about 2 seconds to backorder domain names using
snapnames and pool. It was very quick and easy. As for clubdrop, well
they have no such service to my knowledge.

And so far, no one has even provided any helpful information on how to
backorder a domain name using clubdrop, so you can see why I'm frustrated.

The don't specifically use word 'backorder' like others may be there is a legal reason behind it. But it IS backordering service that they provide, for more information visit their clubdrop URL https://www.enom.com/auctions/clubdrop.asp

That link requires a Enom login, which I don't have.

Can anyone just answer me this question.
Can you backorder a domain name on clubdrop that is a month,year,etc.. away from expiration?
Just like snapnames and pool? Yes or no? Or can you only backorder domain names that they
only specifically list which seem to be domain names that have already expired? As it
sounds like the latter.

That's the point... if you don't register for an account with eNom.com or ClubDrop.com then you don't have access to the backorder auction page. (I believe registering at ClubDrop.com is still free).

What you are looking at ARE the eNom public auctions of domain names that have been captured by the ClubDrop service and the people who requested the domain names then failed to pay. If you don't pay for the name you backorder within five days, it goes up for auction (those are the expired names that you are looking at).

With eNom you can bid on expiring names up to five days away. They are NOT like Snapnames or Pool where you can put in a backorder months in advance.

The fact that the name is with eNom has NO bearing and gives you NO advantage when the domain name drops. The domain name is released by the registry on the day of the drop (Verisign for .com/.net).

You do know that the fact that you put in a backorder at SnapNames/Pool/eNom, etc doesn't mean that you are the only one who put in a backorder on that domain. Often times, at SnapNames or Pool, there will be eight to 20 people bidding on the domain name once it is captured by the backorder service. On the other hand, sometimes you just pay the $60.00 and get the domain.

Enom's ClubDrop has been very effective for me in grabbing domains for me on the day they drop.

You might checkout GoDaddy's backorder service for $18.95. It is not as effective, but is is pretty straightforward and it keeps you up to date as far as the status of the domain you are interested in.

Does eNom resellers get and option to resell their clubdrop services.
Any links pointing to information related to that would be very useful.

Also, what are popular backorder/domain drop services used by domain name community ?? Hope you can post links without violating the forum rules here.

Thanks

Perhaps you should start your own thread to get a better response.
Thanks all.

When first doing research on backordering domain names, some people say register with as many
backorder services as possible. However, there is one disturbing thing that they don't tell
you which I found out after signing up.

When you sign up, they ask for personal information, like your credit card information,
home address, etc... which seems ok at first, but then they take that information and
sell it!

So, this is just a warning. Don't be an idiot and sign up with as many backordering
services as possible. They will sell your information.

Which service? I have used snapnames, pool, clubdrop, NoDaddy Backorders, and NameWinner but haven't experienced what you are referring to here. Can you explain more?

Go to their main website, like Pool, and read their Privacy statement. It's not in the Terms and Conditions.
I assume whenever they say 'share your information', I am assuming they are really selling it.

Ok, my take is that they "share" information because they catch domains using a numerous amount of connections to the registry hence no telling what registrar you will end up with. Share to me would be that all my contact info with Pool will end up with some registrar later on down the road.
