Has anyone had much experience in hosting sites that use objects?

I know the Cobalt site mentions the following:
GNU C/C++ compiler GDB Debugger X11 libraries Java Development Kit (Java Support for Java Run-time Environment 1.3)

But has anyone successfully used any of it for hosting? I have some clients that want to convert their COM objects to something that can be supported on Linux.
