We are currently using Miva Merchant 4.* for e-commerce and find that it is difficult to customize, has a poor database and the inventory tracking system is bad news (items are removed from inventory when placed in the cart as opposed to when checkout is complete). Anyway, we are looking for a strong e-commerce package that has a SQL database, is easy to customize and preferably written in PHP.

We have come across X-cart (http://www.x-cart.com) and it looks like a product that would fit our needs. Our store has 10,000 plus items and does about 40 Gigs of transfer a month. Does anyone have any experience with X-cart? If yes, do you think that X-cart can handle the inventory and traffic levels given above?

I was considering them, but after their support became non-existent, I'm now looking for another shopping cart system. They were emailing back within 24 hours to my first few questions, but have since not bothered getting back to me, nor the company whose designing my website who emailed them 2 weeks ago.
