View Full Version : Music question
Chicken 03-22-2002, 02:59 AM Ok, so I'm driving home from work and KLOS plays a song. Who the heck knows what song. I'll try to describe it, if it sounds familiar, please let me know who and title.
Song sounds like it is sung by a woman, is sort of techno-ish. Synthesizers, driving beat. Chorus repeats...
Keep.. on.. dancing...
something something-something... something something-something...
Keep.. on.. dancing...
thump thump thump
synthesizer music (driving beat)
errrrrr... anyone got a clue?
Abu Mami 03-22-2002, 03:16 AM Have you been eating tainted chicken feed?
Chicken 03-22-2002, 03:24 AM LOL, I'm starting to wonder. There is a bay cities roller song with that title, but I don't think it is the song. This one seems new-ish at least, and that bay cities one is quite old.
I tried searching google, sound clip sites, billboard sites, morpheus, hoping to find something about it, a smaple clip, etc., but it seems like it is impossible to find something when you don't know what it is you're looking for.
I emiled the radio station, heh, we'll see if they can figure it out and if they bother to email back...
*sends out R2D2 droid* Help me WHT, you're my only hope...

I lived in Pittsburgh and was able to tune in stations as far away as Colorado, Idaho, etc. I would recieve confirmations by sending them a list of what I heard at what times. Radio stations are funny this way - they keep records of every little hiccup over the air. They should be able to help you if you told them exactly what time you were listening. Even if you could tell them approximately, they should be able to tell you what the playlist was around that time, and you can figure it out from there.

synthesizer music (driving beat)Yeah, all those something-somethings and that driving synth beat! It's... well, one of about 800 possibilities.
Abu Mami's right, if you called the station they could probably tell you. If you'd called right away they would have told you, but if you call now a day later you'll have to talk someone into digging into the traffic logs.
Does it go like this:
Keep On Dancing
Keep on dancing
Keep on doin' the jerk
Shake it, shake it baby
Come on and show me how you work
Now you're in motion
I'm gonna do the locomotion yeah
Well don't you hurry me away
Shake it shake it till the break
of day.
Keep on dancin' and a prancin'
Keep on dancin' and a prancin'
Keep on dancin' and a prancin'
*Repeat
spoken: All right everybody
we wanna see y'all get up and
dance. We wanna see y'all
havin' a real good time.
And now by popular demand
Keep On Dancin', dancin', dancin'
*Repeat and fade
Lats...

I think I'm going to be sick. That's it, I've gotta put some Rolling Stones on quick - Let It Bleed. Now THAT is music!

That's a song off the new 'No Doubt' album that was released around December of 2001.
Elena 03-22-2002, 05:24 PM if it's the No Doubt song its name is Hella Good :D
Chicken.. do you have the song stuck in your head and it won't go away? I hate it when that happens.. lol
Tim Greer 03-22-2002, 05:38 PM I'm pretty sure that's what it is, by the sound of it. I didn't know the song title though, but Elena did. It's off the No Doubt album called "Rock Steady". You can find the lyrics here to see if you recall some of it and if this is indeed the song:

web docta 04-20-2002, 11:59 PM If "No Doubt" did that song then it's a remake. I remember the lyrics of that song and it's from the sixties. I can't remember the artist but I do remember the original song.

Hehe.. oldie *pointing*
Actually I've developed to that age now where I hear 80's song's redone by tender little things now which people assume are new songs. Never thought I'd hear my generations music being remade this early. Hmm hang on, I'm almost 30 now *sob* Where did those years go.
Stealing music back then was a matter of buying a double cassette recorder, some blank tapes, and something to stick over the 'copy protection' holes on the top.
Umm, no help on the song Chicken - have no idea what it is. But we old people tend to ramble on you know.... Why, one day I remember, must have been back in 19 hundred and eighty three... umm.... ZZzzzzzzzzz

Cassettes? HeHe. You're just a youngin' , Man - we used reel to reel tape recorders. In fact I still have my old Roberts reel to reel tape recorder, and it still works. It had sound on sound!
I like the new technology much more today. Back then when you wanted to hear your favorite song that you recorded, you had to rewind to tape to the middle somewhere and guess where it was :(
Now it's great, I just point and click on my MP3 collection - only about 40 GIGs Worth :D
(Thanks Napster)
Abu Mami 04-21-2002, 07:22 AM Reel to reel! Cassettes! Wow! No one mentioned 8-tracks.
I grew up with 45s, then mono LPs (Hi-Fi!), and then as I got older acquired a large collection of (stereo!) LPs. I still have most of 'em. I also had (no longer) a large collection of albums on reel to reel (I had a KLH - the FIRST with Dolby!). Then when Philips (Norelco in the States) came out with cassettes I jumped right in. 8-track? Wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
Then Philips did it again with the CD - gotta hand it to Philips!. However, I got left out in the cold. I don't have the funds to replace my old collection. Whose got money left over after feeding (and schooling) 4 kids? Hell, when my oldest son (18) comes into the house, he opens the refrigerator, pulls up a chair, and doesn't move till the refrigerator is empty. Doesn't leave much money left for Guinness and classic rock CDs :-((
Abu Mami 04-21-2002, 07:29 AM Sorry, missed this in my previous post...

(Thanks Napster) Yeah, that was a real pain. LPs were easier... Just carefully let the tonearm (Shure SME) down in the right spot...
I still have, and use daily, my Dynaco SCA-80. Blows the drawers off just about anything around today. Except of course for the top-line stuff. A real work horse. The power supply transformer alone weighs more than most of today's stereo systems.
Chicken 05-05-2002, 04:16 AM Errrr... sorry to drag this one up... but I must have lost track of this one. I eventually figured it out, and yes it was the No Doubt song Hella Good. Took me a long time to find it too, I wish I hadn't lost track of the thread as you guys nailed it (guys meaning Tim Greer and non-guy Elena). As I re-read the original post I made, I have no clue how you got it, but you did!
I was pretty certain it was No Doubt (although I'm not exactly a No Doubt fan, I do have a couple of their albums). I ended up searching on Google and ran across a site that sold albums and had short samples of each track. Found it, whew!
Anyhow... thanks for the effort and you both get 100 magical bonus points!!!
I actually give out 'magical bonus points' to my kids at school. It is just me saying that I'm giving them magical bonus points, but they seem to really dig it and compete to get them, heh. Ahhh... when life was *that* simple...
I HIGHLY suggest that EVERYONE get this song and listen to it with a bit of volume kick on a decent stereo or with headphones. Makes me type more accurately and really fast. I wonder if Tim listens to it while he posts? ;)
Tim Greer 05-05-2002, 04:38 AM I forgot about this thread myself. Yeah, I pretty much recognized it right away. I've heard their last few albums. I like Return to Saturn (or is it Rings of Saturn, or?) more than this one though. My wife -- you see -- likes and listens to all kinds of stuff, and I've heard that song so many times, I immediately knew (and I was pretty certain) who it was by (I just didn't know the title of the song) the little amount of information. That must seem kind of kooky. It's got a good beat alright (too bad my stereo sucks though). It's good to see that I was correct, but I suppose it's a little late since you found it anyway. Heh. As for that 100 points, just tack on another 1,000 to my post count (I only mention this because it seems so important to people here -- and I figure that I can eventually work out a deal to sell my post count to another user. HAAAAAAAA!)
Elena 05-05-2002, 04:55 AM woohoo! 100 magical bonus points!! :D
*does a little dance*
hehe...

I'll try to find this and give it a listen. Although I prefer classic rock, I listen to just about anything except for disco, cowboy music, and bagpipes.
Glad you found out what it was. I know what it's like when you hear a song that you like and you can't figure out what it is or who did it. I'm still trying to figure out a jazz instrumental from the 60s (maybe 50s?). Someday I'll nail it!
