Unfortunately for the larger hotels, this is pretty common. With 1100 rooms, the infrastructure cost for putting in wi-fi in every room and common area would be enormous.

I'm not sure if they have wired connections or not. Again, the infrastructure cost (regardless of wired or wireless) for a hotel of 1100 rooms must be huge... They probably had to partner with someone to be able to do it... the percentage of people that use it probably wouldn't justify just paying to put all the stuff in there and not charging for it.

While I can understand the argument, it is quite annoying. Hoping you will have a free wi-fi setup throughout the convention area for im, irc, browsing, etc.

I'm connected through it right now and it's pretty fast, it's well worth it. Come on.. don't tell me you can't spend $40 for internet access :) You can get a daypass for just $9.99.

daveman, to answer your question, we will not have wi-fi throughout, but there will be a hotspot as well as four desktop PCs in the lobby outside the exhibit hall, sponsored by Site5.com. :)

if you just get a t-mobile subscription you have access in the entire hotel..

Daypass for 5 days is more expensive :P

Will this be open the hole convention and available for free? So I can check-in and check my emails and come back and post on WHT during breaks? Wait... why would I post on WHT... everyone in this forum will be AT hostingcon, haha! ;-)

Is there a time-limit? Can I just get a computer setup for my own use there. Or should I bring my own "out of order" sign to put on a computer when I step away?

The T-Mobile wireless does not work everywhere. It is only available in the hotel rooms and in the lobby of the hotel. It is not available in the convention/conference areas.

The HostingCon Wi-Fi hotspot will at a minimum be available during show hours. I'm not sure if it will be available outside of them, but it may.

It is available for free in the Wi-Fi hotspot area. There is no time-limit. The four desktop PCs are there for everyone's use so we ask that they not be used for extended periods of time. :)

If you have your own laptop, you can sit down at one of the tables whenever you like to use the wi-fi.

What about those of us that don't have wireless (in other words, I don't trust it so I never got a wireless card ;) )? Will we be able to use a regular patch cable?

Not in our Internet Access Center. You can use the desktops that we have set up, but we are not able to make wired access available for attendee's personal laptops.

Will there be open power outlets anywhere near the wi-fi area? My laptop battery is dead.
