I'm looking to register a few domain names (cheaply!) with some kind of WHOis protection & the ability to lock the domains. What do you think of these registrars? Any other suggestions?

Stargate
Godaddy
Registerfly
Namecheap

Also, do I risk losing the domain if I register with a site that resells domains too?

Welcome to the forum, Primera ;)

You might use the search function button towards the top of this page to checkout the good, the bad, and the ugly comments about each of the registrars you mentioned.

Personally, I would go for NameCheap as they provide good value for the money, have an excellent control panel, and they have been a consistent performer.

As to your last question about losing your domain, I don't understand it completely. You will only lose your domain if you fail to pay for it each year. All the registrars have to play by ICANN rules, but while the others sometimes give you a grace period after the domain expires (hoping that you will renew it), in my experience, Stargate does not.

Good Luck!

I would also go with NC but they are not a registar. If you are looking for a registar in that group I would have to say Godaddy.

Namecheap - I use them for around 30 domains.

Free whois guard protection! Paypal is an option too, and I have never had any problems with them.

IMO you have greater safety with this partner arrangement rather than a single registrar arrangement.

Personally, I think GoDaddy is the best registrar around. Their control panel contains full DNS features and much more.

Everyone has their own views as per their experience with several registrars.

I use Registerfly since a long time and I prefer to register my domains with them only.

I think GoDaddy is better than RegisterFly if you have lots of domains to manage, just like me. The bulk edit feature is so excellent, I can filter domains by name server, lock status, domain status or whatever else you can image.
