I am looking for hosts that offer customizable (by me; not by them only) mail filters.
The only one I've found so far is
liquidweb
but there are some negative comments about them here.
Any other suggestions?

Just look for hosts using "CPanel", as this control panel will allow you to install mail blockers and filters easily by logging into the control panel, without having to email support.

Thanks !
On a side note, I am newbie and have never used any web control interface, please accept my apology for the lame question.

Site5.com uses NetAdmin (at least that's the name they give it, the link to it says CPanel) and there you can make custom email filters too :). I'm sure quite a lot of hosts with control panels have this. You can always send them an email and ask about it, it's a nice way to test their level of support beforehand ;).

Not at all, I thought that was a very reasonable question.
