View Full Version : Cheap host for multiple domains
JoeCool 03-21-2002, 08:29 PM At the moment I have several domains that aren't being hosted or email being handled. I was wondering what the cheapest way would be to consolidate them into an account so I could at least receive email and pop up a little index page / site for each one (they would all be different).
I figure I'd like a gig or two of bandwidth (more is always ok :)), and the HD space doesn't really matter. I don't want to spend more than $15/month if I don't have to. I just want something that will be up, fast, and allow me to forward email... I'm not going to use much bandwidth/resources. Might as well have the option for mysql/php access, but it's not vital.
Can someone point me to a place that would do a good job with this without breaking the bank? I don't need my hand held... nice control panels aren't necessary. I just need the features/uptime @ a good price.
Thanks.
dgessler 03-21-2002, 08:44 PM I would say www.AlwaysWebHosting.com is good for what you're looking for. They will let you host as many domains as you'd like, for $10/mo or so and all those nice features. Support is excellenet, the guy there is always so freindly and helpful.
ReuvenNY 03-21-2002, 08:58 PM I'll second it and add that you actually get a seperate control panel for each domain, each with their own password.

JoeCool 03-21-2002, 09:03 PM Well, I'd like to get under that $20/month mark, if possible... and a restriction of only one page per domain is pretty tight (not a terribly big deal, but I like options :)). Not to mention that for the price, there is no mention of PHP support (a must if I'm going to be spending a chunk of change).
As for AlwaysWebHosting... well, they seem to have pretty fanciful restrictions: SIXTY GB for $10/month??? That raises some serious red flags about what their uptime/performance must be like, not to mention how long they'll be around. The price is right, though. Anyone else have experiences with them?
Any other hosts with good multi-domain deals?
JustinSurfer 03-21-2002, 09:03 PM I really do recommend ecommercediscovery, I've been with them since August, and Josh is one of the best people I have ever dealt with in web hosting, friendly and very good at customer support,.
Recentley I was having problems with the setup on my CPanel Server (not their fault, it was a combination my coding and CPanel but it worked fine on H-Sphere servers).
So Josh moved me onto a new server and doubled my Bandwidth and space, while charging the same price, great customer service.

JoeCool 03-21-2002, 09:05 PM Oh, and an example of the sites that will be hosted:
www.joelkleppinger.com
Not big and not many hits... just need to forward email. About the biggest thing I do is upload pics or other files for download for my friends in private directories (that's the only reason I'd need any bandwidth at all).
ReuvenNY 03-21-2002, 09:10 PM Alwayswebhosting.com is new, but I have been hosting with them for several weeks, never had a real problem, and the few issues I had were resolved immediatelly to my satisfaction. The site is very fast.

xharine 03-22-2002, 03:31 PM I feel you will not go wrong with either both of them.
However I would personally recommend ecommercediscovery because Josh has been really nice and quick to my enquiries, and if you need a custom plan you can ask him for it.
=)
JoeCool 03-22-2002, 03:36 PM Last night, I decided to go for ecommercediscovery. The features are outstanding for the price (maybe a little too much still, but more realistic than what I see alwayswebhosting having). I also like the idea of control over mysql dbs myself rather than depending on the alwayswebhosting guy to create dbs/users.
Less than 2 hours after signing up, my account was created and live, and I was able to start moving domains over. It's definitely a positive beginning.
Thanks to all.
xharine 03-22-2002, 03:38 PM Congratulations JoeCool, I hope everything else goes smoothly, I'll be joining you at ecommercediscovery soon!

I don't quite see what part of this FAQ you find to be a red flag, cgiGeek. Could you do us all a favor and clarify?

The images do not load (at least for me)
xharine 03-25-2002, 10:27 AM Tha's not because the server is slow or down, it's just because the images are linked incorrectly....
If you look at the rest of the pages the images are loaded well and fine.
cgiGeek 03-25-2002, 10:28 AM Also you had another page
with chinease as the primary charset,
cannot remmember which one, maybe you fixed it.
cgiGeek 03-25-2002, 10:30 AM than answer was to fast,
yes I know is because that page is wrong,
that counts in my book also,
doesn´t it in yours?

circuit 03-26-2002, 12:26 AM I would also highly recommend alwayswebhosting for multiple domain hosting - separate logins/ control panels for each domain make it as easy as having a separate host for each site! Please PM me if you want an unbiased opnion.
All this arguing about bandwidth is very misrepresentative in my view. I think it's very hard for novice webmasters to know what their site will use, and in that respect, a high number provides security for everyone. There can't be many people who sign up and REALISTICALLY expect to use that much bandwidth every month. I'm sure if someone started sharing a huge mp3 or warez collection it would be counted as abuse for all kinds of reasons, and would be removed pretty quick.
ReuvenNY 03-26-2002, 12:31 AM Just noticed - alwayswebhosting.com now limits the bandwidth to 60Gb a month. Thanks God, Ronnie. No more arguments...
