I've just signed up with the truly wonderful alwayswebhosting.com and have been messing around with Ensim (Control Panel) to try configure my mailboxes. I think I may have messed up the Sendmail stuff though and I can't find any Ensim-specific help that relates to my problem.

When I started, I had the following listed in SendMail.


ALIAS -------------------- EMAIL OR USER
____________________________________
MAILER-DAEMON ------ postmaster
postmaster ------------- root
root ---------------------- admin
catch-all ----------------- username@externaladdress.com

This is OK, except that the root is pointing to the admin email account - I don't really want to check POP mail, I just want everything, including root, to forward to username@externaladdress.com.

I tried to edit "root" to username@externaladdress.com and it said "root" already existed. So, I deleted "root" and "catch-all" with the aim of putting them back and 'starting over'.

Now I just have this:

ALIAS -------------------- EMAIL OR USER
____________________________________
MAILER-DAEMON ------ postmaster
postmaster ------------- root
catch-all ----------------- username@externaladdress.com

I can't seem to get my original settings back. When I try adding root, it still says the alias already exists.

Please help! It's driving me mad! Alternatively maybe someone could provide an Ensim/ Sendmail FAQ cos their help files don't do a good job of explaining the ins and outs of the commands for newbies.

wouldn't it be a lot faster and more efficient to e-mail your host's tech support?

i thought there would be some techie on here that would know about these things - thus leaving my web host to deal with more important enquiries...

at least a friendly and/or experienced user who would have done it all before...
