I got a cisco 2500 router, and I am having a problem. I am trying to save my config to nvram and its not working. I do copy run start
even tried startup-config and it appears not to know what startup-config is. I can copy to tftp fine. Any ideas/

What mode are you in when you try to copy run start?

enable mode, thats not the problem, otherwise I would not be able to copy to tftp, right?

the one with the ^ char
Like when I type copy run and hit tab, it finished it for me, when when I type startup it wont finish it,

Interesting.
I can't remember what mode it is you should be in for copy run start but it's either Global conf or enable.
If you have not got anything setup try the trusty
erase start
reload
In which case copy run start should do the job.
What version of IOS are you using?

copy running-config startup-config -- stores the current configuration from RAM into NVRAM
Sometimes systems don't like the short version of run start...
I shoulda remembered that :D

Ill try some of those, but im not holding my breath. It is a used router, but when I got it, the old config was still loaded, they named the router bear. Then I had to reset the config, using the password recovery option in one of the books I had. could that be it? Anyhow I just gett annoyed that none of my settings save, and Im up here on vacation, so I dont have a network to connect it to, so tftp is outta the option. Anyhow, thats for all the suggestions.

I found out it was with the password recovery, the next page had a couple more steps. Thanks for all the help.
