Okay, here's something new. This is directed to all hosts who either started their business alone, or as a partner. I'm curious how many people actually had experience in the web hosting field before deciding that you wanted to start your own business.

I think it would be quite foolish to start a web hosting company without having at least some professional "real world" experiencing. Even if you've studied a related subject at university (like IT, or e-business), I think it's important to have worked in the field before.

Unfortunately reseller accounts make it so easy to start, that I would suspect that many people just decide to start a host without either studying a related subject, or having any other experience with the technology first.

I totally agree.
Which is pretty much the point of my post. It seems that there are A LOT of "hosts" here that had zero experience running a server, let alone a hosting company. I'd like to see how many (or should I say how few) actually did have experience.

I works for a local hosting company Called B2ben (Sounds like Beethoven in spanish), but I learnd a lot more in 10 months with DTH than in 2 years there.
Also works as a webmaster for a site in argentina, until they find that I sucks as designer :)
Not more experience in the host area, but I always works with computers.
BTW, I have 29 years now, and I started to work at 18.

I had no professional experience when I first started. I started hosting as an added service to my web design business. I put alot of blood, sweat and time into it. I do agree with the above replys, I'm not going to get in over my head. I try and keep my hosting to my design clients and smaller less experienced sites. I've seen too many resellers try and conquer the hosting world only to fail and have alot of angry customers. I don't want to be like that.

keep it real...
