Just noticed that webhosting.com is marketing a "new shared hosting platform". The new platform supports Windows 2000, new TLDs, web-mail, e-commerce, etc. What's going on with webhosting.com?

Most of the previous posts suggested avoiding webhosting.com but I am intrigued now. I called sales and technical support and they were very helpful in answering my questions. Any recommendations on taking the leap or running for the hills?

I have a question, if they're advertising their new plans that way, then did their old plans not support the new TLDs?

Yes from what I've heard in the past, that domain is more valuable than most people would think in generating sales for webhosting.com.

Yep, a domain like webhosting.com doesn't really need marketing because most people will find it by typing it in. (Thats how I did)

Its like having the domain Auction.com or Internet.com or WebDesign.com

All in the name.....hehehe :D

Wow, they now have web-mail support (everyone else had that ages ago), and can host new TLDs (I don't know any host who can't do this).

But really, while their sales might be helpful, I can tell you that support isn't. They will promise that issues will get resolved, but they won't. They will promise to cancel your account, but then they will forget about it... even 5 faxes later.

And when I requested to move to another server because the server I was on was so overloaded that my site would take minutes to load (and when you clicked on the links, it would often bring up "server busy" errors)... They wanted to charge me $100 to move me, without guaranteeing that the new server would be faster.

Downtime there was horrible while I had a site with them. Basically it was down for several hours a day one time, every day for months, and billing wasn't very helpful. Their 99.9% uptime guarantee simply does not exist -- they won't even credit you a free month of hosting, unless you shout at them.

Oh and they offer unlimited bandwidth, but kick you off after 3GB because you are "overloading" the server, even if you don't have any CGI scripts. Anyone who is with *****, consider yourself lucky.

Actually I don't know if they are still that bad, as it's been 2 years since i hosted with them. But they still offer unlimited bandwidth, and I still hear horror stories.
