I know Tranxactglobal uses the Aleron backbone, I don't know how many other users do as well, but I thought you all would find this interesting:

thanks for the link very interesting.
this may be totally onconnected but i noticed all data from users in the uk of aol gets routed thru reston even if its too and from uk servers. does aol have a conection to this company or is reston just where a load of transatlantice cables terminate?

I have worked for BT in the past, and can assure you that alot of the UK data goes through Reston, I have many times rang Reston to get issues resolved.
The Aleron issues is very interesting, thanks for the info, we may need to re-consider our options :)
Kind Regards

There is a lot of fiber in the Northern Virginia area (where Reston is located). So it is probably not related Aleron, which did not have a big international backbone. But one of the other major providers in the area.

cool. when i used aol a lot i constantly had problems with routers in wisconsin dropping 40-60% of data, atdn routers, and aol didnt give a flying f**k and did nowt about it. didnt know bt went thru there but im on cable at the mo so i their infrastructure is very different. the pings were stupid tho, two transatlantic trips to talk to uk servers.
The sweet deal they gor from Telia.
I wish the market was better, with some cash these guys could be something....
Damn.
