We have a .com customer who has a couple of .de domains that he would just like to park to our server.

They were originally registered by PureTec at Denic. We have been asking to change the name server entries for a month now, and finally someone has told him that they cannot change them to us because they need to have a German Provider.

I am not sure if they are saying that the domains need to be registered with a German registrant, or if a German host has to host the domains.

The client lives in France, but also has German residence, so there is no problem from that angle, especially since the domains were already registered.

I am not sure if this is a language barrier problem or what. Basically I have email PureTec, but they only seem to respond back to our client.

Is there anyone out there that understands the .de rules?

Thanks for your help,

The owner needs to have german residence, as far as I know, but the thing with the name server is new to me. Maybe they just mixed something up.

Do you want me to translate something for you?

Fortunately there are no such rules with our .ch domains....

Puretec are .... eh....
Visit http://www.denic.de/index.en.html for information about the german registry policies (in english).

Thanks Walter, I read through the documents, but I do not see where anything that states that the domains cannot point to a non-German host.

Looks like he has to have a German residence, and be registered by a German (.de) registrar. But it looks like the zone contact and name servers can be anywhere.

I have sent an e-mail to denic directly to see if we can resolve this. I will let you know what/if I find anything out.

Thanks,

Walter

Puretec doesn't allow modifications of the DNS, it's a real cheap discount host...
I would transfer the domain to another German host like DD24 (http://www.dd24.net/main.en.html), they do allow DNS changes, pointing the domain to a foreign host should be no problem. (your client has to terminate the domain contract by fax at Puretec first, more info in German here (http://faq.puretec.de/vertrag/vertrag_und_kosten/3.html))

I forgot: If you just need basic URL redirection (no matter if German or foreign URLs) you client can easily do this on the control panel at config.puretec.de
