View Full Version : 24/7 Support - does anyone keep that promise?
AmirShaked 03-21-2002, 08:03 AM Hello guys,
After many disappointments I come to you with this question:
Is there any host that does give 24/7 support?
From my experience:
iSpeed promises it, but doesn't give support during the night.
myacen does not have live chat as promised and also
they don't reply to emails during the night.
HostRocket and WestHost also have terrible support.
Is there anyone???
AmirShaked 03-21-2002, 08:09 AM myacen did answer to my supprt call after 1 hour.
NumLock 03-21-2002, 08:15 AM people aren't PERFECT
and if u real want 24/7 support, the company will hav to hire skilled people to answer ur questions, and those skilled people like u n me demand a high wage so the more 'support people' are employed, the costs will be transfered to the consumer.
AmirShaked 03-21-2002, 08:23 AM Look, I don't need tricky features during night time,
but thing like: "my wesite is down" or "mail server doesn't work".
I live in Israel, so your night time is day time for the
businesses I host.
21inchguns 03-21-2002, 08:24 AM there are a lot of hosts that give 24/7 support.....but the question is how quickly do you want that support.......do you want a response in 5 minutes.......?? If so you will need to go with a company with a few staff and that will cost a lot more.......
punaboy 03-21-2002, 09:16 AM I just started with venturesonline. I've submitted support tickets during early morning hours (1am - 4am pacific) and they have answered within 1/2 hour. Maybe it's because I'm the only crazy one up at that hour?!?!?!?
They have a great support team.
HRMelissa 03-21-2002, 03:30 PM You may want to find a webhost in your own part of the world, we have a large support staff that works during the day, however our support staff at night is mainly to monitor and maintain the servers and fix any downtimes that may occur at night. During the day (like 8am to 10pm EST) you should get very quick responses from our support but if you are not awake then it may not be of any help to you.

anonymousman 05-27-2002, 11:24 AM That is an advertisement and its against the boards rules.
There is a lot of room for misunderstanding in 24/7 support.
24/7 support can simply mean that you can contact support 24/7, and they will respond to you 24/7
viGeek 05-27-2002, 03:51 PM In my past expiriences, only about half of the web hosts i have been with value their 24/7 support. When i say 24/7 i mean sending a ticket in at 4AM (their time), and receiving a human response within 1-2 hours.
VenturesOnline - has the best 24/7 support in my opinion.
HostRocket - has good 24/7 support
Those are the only two out of 5 web hosting companys i have been with, that actually give 24/7 support.
I don't think its really honoured by any host. Been on the other side of the globe, the time when I am working on my site and might run into any problems, its night time over in US (my current host). Thus I seldom get replies to support threads that I raise at that time, the fastest reply I have so far was after 8 hours...And some of these host reads 24/7 support O_o....crap..

I think some would agree with this:
24/7 Support means:
Good: 24 hour response time.
Bad: Always has a delay of 1-24 hours
Live Support means:
Good: Instant Support
Bad: Business-hours only, other hours "Leave a message".
Conclusion: Since 24/7 support is generally going to have a delay of 1 to 24 hours, it is reliable but not good for emergencies etc.
However, Live Support is great for Emergencies, as well as 24-hour response, since if Live Support is offline, you can Leave a Message and thereby fallback to the same level of 24/7 support, and expecting a response typically within 24 hours.
For most cases however, Live Support is typically better since they are Live and Instant when it counts (during Business Hours).
What we all must understand however, is that "Live Support" and "24/7 Support" are two completely different things, with each company providing a variation of one of the two. That's why some people are confused by carious companies promising 24/7 Support yet they don't get an instant response.
Some companies however DO have 24/7 Love Support.
That's a whole different beast, having Live Instant Response... anytime 24/7.
Companies can offer 24/7 Live Support in many different ways; via hosted applications (LiveHelper/LivePerson/GroopZ) or traditional messaging (AIM/ICQ/MSN/Yahoo).
Other companies that offer 24/7 Live Support is rackspace.com, burst.net, any others? please post...
I would really like to see how other companies provide Live Support, be it messaging platforms, phone-gateways, or even instant-email-response ("instant" meaning within 3-10 minutes max.

I have always gotten great help through their help desk no matter what time of day/what day of the week I submit a question. Even early hours of the morning on the weekend. :D
mwatkins 05-28-2002, 02:10 AM http://Pair.com - I have interacted with their dedicated server support staff only during the wee hours. I'll just have to assume they have people there during the day time too :)

lbeachmike 06-01-2002, 01:21 AM From my personal experience, FutureQuest, HostGo and ActiveHost all have amazing 24-hour support. In general, HostGo and ActiveHost often respond within 15 minutes, with quality intelligible responses. However, there are occasions where you might not hear back for a few hours. They are more personalized in their level of service. FutureQuest is definitely at the top, with very reliable support responses around the clock usually within 30-60 minutes, if not sooner.
Dreamhost used to be quite good, but recently their support has been having turnaround times of 24 hours. Nonetheless, there responses are usually quite thorough and of good quality. They've assured me that this is temporary and they'll be back to better response times within the near future.
My experience with Hostrocket, mentioned above has been extraordinarily disappointing. They do have 24 hour support, however, sometimes they do not respond to support inquiries at all. Then again, when I spoke with the CEO of the company about this, he explained that there is no guaranteed response time unless you pay $3 for a 10-minute guaranteed response turnaround. I think this is a ridiculous and classless practice, since I can easily go to FutureQuest, HostGo or ActiveHost with my account and know that I'll always get a reliable response time and not have to pay extra for it. There were many cases while I was at Hostrocket where they closed out my tickets without responding.
It should also be noted that HRMelissa, in another message here is actually a Hostrocket employee. And yes, that was a good catch, that the response was actually an advertisement of sorts in disguise.
There are many other reliable hosts out there with excellent support. I continue to be more often pleased than disappointed - it's just a matter of doing some thorough research and reading reviews posted at multiple sites, rather than relying on just one source. Unfortunately, the bulk of hosting companies are quite disappointing - just read the reviews out there.
I've recently moved my Hostrocket account over the Hostit365. So far their support seems quite reliable and courteous, though I'm not certain what exactly is guaranteed.

arura 06-01-2002, 01:52 AM I've been very happy with the support from JaguarPC.
I host my new hobby site arura.com with them now, but I have been with them since december 2001 with other domains also. I've received support through their ticket system in minutes, sometimes secondes. It always amazes me how fast they answer my requests. I live in Europe, so I have sent support tickets in not us business hours. And they are also very active in the forums, where you also get help from very talented and helpfull customers. My nick at the Jaguarpc forum is Dana, if you want to check my posts.
I don't see them mentioned at this board often. I found them at webhost buyers guide http://hostbuyersguide.com/
They are in second place in the category Full Service Hosting, I think they deserve praise for great support.
Best regards
Arura
