This is just despicable:

RAQport is "selling" the installation of NeoMail for $165.

I looked, but I couldn't find anywhere that made this a specifically makes this a violation of eBay's rules.

What's wrong? (besides the price  ) He's not selling the software, he's selling the installation.

If that's wrong, then so is the entire service industry that's sprung up around Linux....

Yea, I have to agree with cbtrussell. The price might be high, but I help out a few other people and they pay me to install/customize lots of Open Source packages.

They don't have the time/experience to do it, but they have customers who want it.

Nothing wrong with offering admin/installation services for money. Those who can't do for themselves, pay someone else to do for them.

Sure it's correct to sell installation but it does seem a little overpriced considering there's even a official package for neomail to download from cobalt site. I mean it takes 1 minute to install from the control panel...

That was more or less why I thought it was wrong. I'd be willing to bet that they *use* the PKG for installation. I mean, why wouldn't they? It's definitely less labor....

I'm not saying selling a service is wrong, I'm saying that to me, it's taking advantage to sell something (at that price) that can be done with almost no effort and almost no knowledge for FREE.

Is that more clear? ;) (I always neglect to include the point when i'm steamed).

Pricing is a wierd thing. A long time ago, in a land far, far away I used to write shareware. As part of that I belonged to a trade association (the ASP). Several members of the ASP ran experements with the price of their software. As they changed the price between 19.95 and 69.95 (doing this from memory) they got a lot more sales at the 69.95 price (for the same software).

A lot of people relate price to quality. If you install something for $10.00 they get the impression that it's quick-n-dirty. If you charge $100.00 for the exact same thing they "percieve" better quality.

I'm not saying that the other guy is not overcharging, but the value/price of the service is best left to the customer in my book.
