When a customer uploads data to a server, who is responsible for the data, if it is stated the hosts backups are not garuanteed or they provide as a free service?

On average, do customers have their own backups? or do they upload their site and delete it off their hard drive?

Well, the customers could backup their own data, but it will save you alot of headaches in the future if you backup all the data yourself.

On average, do customers have their own backups? Unless you have some insurance on the data in case of loss (and even if you do) all 'data owners' should keep a backup of their data regardless what their host tells them they will do and regardless how well the host does it.

If the data is important to you... use the extra space locally and keep a backup. It may save you a great deal of headaches when you least need them.

I am just curious of what other hosts experiences with customer behavior in this sort of situation, because we all know computers are not always reliable and things happen...I would have to say 75% of people do not keep their own backups...

Do most hosts do backups?

Most seem to advertise it... but for those that have been around a while I think many would agree too many hosts have, for whatever reason, been unable to come forth with the backups when it was needed most and/or it takes a greater amount of time to restore from those backups than it would have for the site owner to simply upload their own. For this reason it is _always_ wise to keep a local copy.
