View Full Version : Do Not Post While I Am Reading

Hello

When I come to WHT I always select 'View New Posts'. I have been having a problem lately because when I am reading a thread by the time I come back to the thread list there have been more postings back at the top of page one.

This is a problem because I don't know whether to go back to page one and read them or just keep going forward or what.

After some serious thought I have come up with a solution. When I am here no-one should submit any new posts.

I have sent Chicken an email telling him that when he is not too busy deleting threads and posts he doesn't approve of he should write a script that will detect when I am on the board and disable the post function except for me.

Until this script is ready would you please check the 'Currently Active Users' list to see if I am here and if I am just wait until I leave before you make your post.

Thank you for your attention to this matter
Simon

Wouldn't dream of posting while you're reading, Simon.

I live at the View New Posts page myself. And it is so annoying that; before I can finish reading all the new posts, someone posts again.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I sure hope you're not here as I'm writing. I couldn't view the Who's on Line, so I'm just going on feelings.

V.I.P Sir... I respectfully agreed your order.
But you must not come here then, bcs the postings will stop, as your the V.I.P of this board.

j/k, but i think its never possible :D

Oddly enough, even after all this time, I still never use the 'view new posts' button. I just start at the bottom of the forum and work my way up the main page. By the time I'm at the top and I have the time, I'll skip back through them again so see if anything new has shown up.

Why start at the bottom? I haven't a clue but I seem to do it on almost every forum I visit.

well Simon, i have a suggestion.

disable auto-refresh option in your browser so when you feel you have read all posts press refresh button on top of your browser and you will see new posts. ;)

BTW, i don't live at new posts page, i live at lounge. :D

I open up each forum that I read in it's own window as soon as I get here.

Then I start from the bottom of the new messages for each forum, opening each thread in it's own window.

The only way I can keep it organized.

Simon, I've got a better idea... The script should disable reading the forums for you when someone else is posting. Very simple. :-)
