Tera-Byte (http://www.tera-byte.com) offers domain name registration ($10) when you sign up for any hosting account. This seems like a good deal to me seeing as how most domains cost at least $15 at other sites. My question is, does registering with them also bind me to using their hosting service? Meaning, if I were to cancel the hosting portion of my subscription would I still have access to my domain and be able to :scatter: transfer it to another host? If I am required to use both services in conjunction (or if tera-byte is a bad place to register to begin with), does anyone have any suggestions for sites to register a domain at? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanx.

I wouldn't register a domain through the company I'm hosting with.
Maybe just my personal preference.

I like www.stargateinc.com

I wouldnt trust registering a domain with my hosting company...if i pissed them off by canceling my account id be scared they would keep my domain.

Instead register your domain at www.namecheap.com its a normal registering service wich means YOU own the domain and its only 8.88 per domain!

Also the owner frequents these boards, and responds to support emails VERY quickly...I am very satisfied with namecheap and would reccommend it to my own grandmother!

Unless it is explicitly stated in their contract, you are under no obligation to use their hosting services when you register your domain through them.

NameCheap.com << $8.99 a year I think for .com, .net, and .org's.....I think .tv type domains are 13 bucks.

But I use NameCheap for my domain, and I'm pretty happy with it. :D

You can certainly register your domain through your hosting company, but make sure you own the domain, you are the admin contact, and that you know where it's going to actually be registered so you know if there are any gotchas at that registrar.

There are registrars who charge extra/hidden fees for various things you might want to do with your domain over time.

I have over a hundred domain names through www.Stargate.com and I've never had one problem with them. My brother had trouble with hosting from Stargate, but their domain name registration is the tops for me.

If you register names 2 at a time through their DomainXpress option it's only $8.00 per name per year. Otherwise, it's $8.85 per year. Their control panel is easy. You can change the dns info and even create your own private name servers if the need ever arises.

This way, if you ever move from Tera-Byte, then you are in control. You just change the dns (very easy to do) to the IP info given to you by the new host.

Highly recommended.

Register the name by yourself, do NOT register through your host. It just isn't worth the risk. You can get a domain name for about $9.
